We watched over 3,400 students take the stage a few weeks ago at our Spring Commencement and welcomed many new members into the Bobcat alumni community. If you had a Bobcat graduate this spring, congratulations, and thank you for supporting them throughout their time here. For those of you whose students have not yet reached that milestone, they still have time to spend on this beautiful campus learning from our incredible faculty! 

Read on for things your student can do if they are living in Athens over the summer, Family Weekends dates, and employment opportunities for your student when they return. I hope many of you are getting a chance to reconnect with your Bobcat over these next few months. Is your student living in Athens for the summer? There's plenty to do, whether they are an outdoor enthusiast, interested in local art and culture, or just want a chance to relax. 

Some of our fave activities include going for a bike ride on the 21-mile Hockhocking Adena Bikeway (you can rent free bikes from the Athens County Libraries), visiting the Athens Farmers Market, or hitting the trails at Strouds Run State Park. Students can catch cool community events too like the Athens Community Arts and Music Festival, Athens Uptown Art Hops or the Nelsonville Music Festival. 

Canvas, OHIO’s new learning management system that’s replacing Blackboard, is now available to all students. Colleges are transitioning to Canvas in phases, and students' positive experiences are the top priority. This means some courses are using Canvas this semester while others are using Blackboard or a different technology. 

To find where summer courses will be taught, log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu. If students don’t see their classes on the Dashboard page, check Blackboard. Email the instructor if the course is not listed in Canvas or not open in Blackboard. They can inform on where the course is being taught and when it will become available. 

Culinary Services is hiring for the next academic year. Students can apply now and line up a job so they have one less thing to stress about for the fall semester. 

Find more job opportunities on the OHIO job site, or apply for a Community Work Study position for students who are work study eligible. 

Dates for the 2024-25 year have been released. Get ahead on travel plans, and join your Bobcat to explore our beautiful campus. Please note some hotels and lodging options may not release availability this far ahead of time.

Students can schedule a drop-in appointment by calling 740.593.1616 or visiting Hudson Health Center 3rd Floor between 9:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. They are able to receive services if they are currently engaged in treatment and/or enrolled in summer classes at the Athens Campus. Telehealth is available if students are in Ohio at the time of the appointment.
