The Office of Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs has welcomed three news members across two units.
Academic Success:
Brené Moore - CARE Navigator - bmoore94@uthsc.edu
Brené Moore began at UT Health Science Center on Monday, June 3rd! Moore is a Memphis local, has been in higher education for almost 5 years, and feels that with her experience it will be a smooth transition. Brené wanted to pivot from counseling and felt that this position was perfect for her, because she can use skills that she developed from counseling to better serve students in this role. What Moore enjoys most about working with students is how rewarding it is to help them get on the other side of whatever issues they may be dealing with. "I love to see a student that was once struggling prevail!" Brené is extremely family oriented, "My family is everything to me!"
CHIPS:
Meredith (Merit) Koch - simulation technologist - mkoch9@uthsc.edu
Merit Koch, Simulation Technologist from Memphis TN, started working for UT Health Science Center as a Standardized Patient in January but moved to CHIPS Operations this month. She is responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations for our simulation events including manikin maintenance, AV set up, and providing excellent experiences for our learners to practice procedural skills, communication skills, and more. "I am passionate about emerging technology and science, particularly when it comes to patient-centered care." After growing up in a family full of healthcare educators, Merit is thrilled to use her skills be a part of the CHIPS team. (Her Mom and Dad are proud, too.) What Koch enjoy most about working in simulation is watching a learner's face light up when they make an in-the-moment discovery --- transforming textbook knowledge into real world confidence in their skills and profession. "When I'm not at CHIPS, I enjoy performing Shakespeare, composing music, and running with my four-legged friend Blu."
Christopher (Chris) Patrick - simulation technologist - cpatri17@uthsc.edu
Chris Patrick is a new Simulation Technologist at CHIPS. He is originally from Tampa, Florida, but finished high school and college in Georgia. He has spent the last 15 years in Birmingham, Alabama. "I did many different things before the Covid-19 pandemic such as video production, guest services, and photography; but after the pandemic I was able to transition into a role as a Patient Care Tech at the Center for Psychiatric Medicine at UAB Hospital in Birmingham."
Chris started with CHIPS this Monday. "Less than a week, but I love working at UT Health Science Center." Everyone has been so nice and helpful.
In his spare time Chris loves movies and has volunteered with the Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham for many years. He hopes to find a way to fit it with the Memphis film community, as well. Chris also love Improv comedy and misses performing with his old group Taco Truck Improv. "I hope to find a creative community of folks to perform with, maybe in a play or to join an improv group."
Please extend a warm welcome to Brené, Merit, and Chris!
