CHECK THE NEW STUDENT CHECKLIST FOR TRANSFER STUDENT ITEMS
MAY 29, 2018
Dear Transfer Students,
Welcome to Tufts!
Below are some tips to get you started academically here at Tufts. In the coming weeks, you will meet with one of us in person or virtually to discuss your fall courses. In the meantime, there are some steps for you to take. Please consult the New Student Checklist 2018 and pay particular attention to the items in green designated for Transfer Students.
Combined Degree Transfer Students! Look out for a message in early June from your Advising Deans with additional instructions about scheduling an appointment!

Creating your SIS Account

Along with your letter from admissions, you received your username and a temporary password with information about setting up your email account. This also allows you to log on to our Student Information System (SIS). You will use SIS for many things during your time at Tufts.

Transfer Credit

You also received an estimate of what courses will transfer to Tufts, but now you must apply for official approval for transfer credit from Tufts faculty through SIS. You can log into your SIS account and simply follow the instructions for submitting each course for possible approval. To apply for credit, you should have your transcript in front of you to make sure the course number and title you enter exactly match what is on your transcript. You will be asked to provide the course description (a link to a description works) and possibly a syllabus, if you have it. Approval will be posted on SIS so that you can follow the progress of your transfer of credit. If you do not see your transfer credits on your SIS unofficial transcript, that means they have not been awarded. Only credits posted to your Tufts transcript will count toward your degree.
If you have not already provided Tufts with an official transcript that includes your spring grades, please have one sent now to Tufts Student Services (not to Admissions). The Tufts Registrar will determine the amount of credit awarded for each course approved for transfer credit.
  • Students in Liberal Arts may transfer up to 60 Semester-hour units (SHUs) and need a total of 120 SHUs to graduate.
  • As an Engineering student, the number of SHUs required to graduate depends on the specific degree program, but will be at least 120 SHUs. Students in Engineering may transfer in up to half of the required SHUs for their specific degree program.
  • BFA students may transfer in up to half of the required studio course SHUs for their degree program and half of the required non-studio course SHUs.
  • Combined Degree students may transfer in up to 28 SHUs of studio coursework for their BFA portion of their degree program and up to 60 SHUs for the BA/BS portion of their degree program.

Registration

You will be able to register for your fall classes once you have met or communicated with one of us. You can use the hyperlinks in our names below to email your Advising Dean and schedule an appointment.

Orientation

If you are living on campus, move-in day at Tufts is Wednesday, August 29. You should check the Orientation website for updates. You should plan on being settled into your room by noon so you can enjoy the picnic lunch provided and be ready to attend the Matriculation Ceremony at 1 p.m. There will be a special event for transfer students that evening.
If you are involved with one of the pre-orientation programs, you will receive details from your program about when to arrive on campus.
Sincerely,
