Lindsay Traver Taps into the Heart of Customer Service
Lindsay Traver (she/her) with SSP America / Hopworks was nominated by a PDX traveler and Mathias Zippert, Director of Airport Operations, SSP America.
As Mathias shared, “Lindsay has been at SSP America for more than 10 years, and she always goes above and beyond. We couldn't be prouder of the work she does every day; she is one of the pillars our SSP family stands on. The acknowledgment below comes from a guest who sent in a handwritten card to thank her personally."
"Waiting for a plane has rarely been such a treat as it was being at Hopworks last Wednesday and watching all of your people doing such an enthusiastic job. The beer was good, and the pretzel was astounding – fresh and hot is quite a different experience than a bag on a plane.
I was there a few months ago and was delighted to see many of the same people again – retention of good people is so important these days. Thanks again for good food, good beer and good company."

What's New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby and Emergency Egress Reminder
Ticket Lobby: Overhead work on the south side of the ticket lobby is extended through Wednesday, Jan. 12. From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., access to one or two of the south side escalators will be blocked for safety as this work proceeds. A spotter will be present to direct pedestrian traffic around the closed area and to elevators, which will be operational during this time. On the north side, the same work is extended through Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Emergency Egress Reminder: Emergency egress coming from Concourse E and the United Lounge will now exit through the north ticket lobby. A new overhead emergency exit sign was installed at the Concourse E bypass entrance as part of this change.

It's Getting Busy at PDX!
Holiday travel is officially underway, but more travelers shouldn’t mean more stress, especially with PDX People around to help.
Current projections for the last two weeks of December (Dec. 17 through 31) forecast approximately 730,000 PDX passengers. That marks nearly a 20% increase over 2022, when a December ice storm impacted traffic through Christmas Eve. We're encouraging travelers to arrive early and check parking before they head out. Read the news release for tips you can share with family and friends to make their experience as relaxed as possible.

Improvements Coming to Employee Parking Lot
As you know, we've implemented several measures to enhance safety and security in the PDX employee parking lot, such as 24/7 monitoring, improved security and lighting, and helpful signage. Additional efforts to enhance security got underway this week, including installing upgraded CCTV cameras in the bus shelters and a more secure rolling fence.
If you park in this lot, impacts should be minimal as shuttle bus service will continue to operate on the normal six-to-eight-minute schedule. However, it will affect the shuttle route and some shelters will be closed.
•  Shelters A and B will close Dec. 26 through 28, and Jan. 23 and 24.
•  Shelters E, F, and G will close January 2 through 4, and Jan. 25 and 26.
•  Charging stations will be off-line on Wednesday, Jan. 24 and Thursday, Jan. 25.
These changes are aimed at increasing safety in the lots, but as in any public parking lot, we encourage you to remove all valuables from your vehicle when parking at the airport. We also recommend taking the extra step to tuck your employee parking pass or hangtag into your console to keep it out of sight.
Most important, if you observe any suspicious activity, please call the PDX Communications Center emergency number at 503.460.4000. Thanks to your observations, Port Police have successfully interrupted illegal activities in parking lots and garages – a great reminder that if you see something, say something.
Orox Leather Co. takes the first spot in the PDX pop-up program.
Portland Business Journal: New PDX Terminal Will Include Pop-Up Locations for Small Retailers
Building a retail or food location inside PDX is about three times as expensive as building outside the airport, which means a PDX location is out of reach for many small businesses. But with the new pop-up program at PDX we're working to remove barriers and help get smaller local brands into our airport and in front of travelers. That's why we're footing the bill to build out two 500-square-foot stores, the first of which will be occupied by Orox Leather Co. Learn more about the innovative PDX pop-up program in this interview with Abby Carey, PDX concessions development manager at the Port of Portland.
