Dear Graduate School Alumni,
I am writing to provide an important update on our admissions and recruitment processes. In light of the Supreme Court decision on the use of race in admissions decisions, I have worked closely with our Vice Provost for University Enrollment Affairs, Douglas Christiansen, to educate and support our community.
In July, I was honored to be invited as an expert to co-facilitate a technical session at the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) summer meeting, where I presented and led case studies on Vanderbilt's proactive response to the ruling. Our approach and swift adaptation to these changes is recognized as exemplary within the graduate education community.
Our commitment to holistic admissions has always been central to our approach; we established an Admissions Task Force prior to the ruling. This group was tasked with preparing our community for the
anticipated changes, while also reinforcing Vanderbilt's core values.
Following the ruling, to foster a campus-wide understanding, we conducted comprehensive training sessions, shared informative video content, and held discussions to address questions and concerns from our community.
I am grateful for the thoughtful partnerships that have made this work on our campus possible. This collaboration has paid dividends. Our new cohort of students continue to represent an impressive range of backgrounds and experiences.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Vanderbilt Graduate School.
Sincerely,
