Many view the New Year as a time for new beginnings. We may need a re-boot or a re-start. Sometimes, a family needs help to find their new beginning. Greenbriar's Family Preservation program can help families by providing FREE counseling and support services to families from all economic and all ethnic backgrounds.
We help families like Janey's (name changed) who has been participating in the Family Preservation Program over the last several months. Per our MSW, Catherine Brown-Gray, "When Janey first entered the program, she was having some financial difficulties because the hours at her job were reduced due to lack of work. Her main focus was finding out about and fixing her teenage daughter’s sudden behavior change which resulted in her being suspended from school for 10 days for fighting with another student. She also has a younger child who is in Pre-K that she had to walk several blocks to school or take a Lyft to on bad-weather days and then to work (sometimes late) because of not being able to afford the repairs to her car. "
Working with Miss Gray, Janey was able to identify other resources within our community where she could get help with utility bills, obtaining food and rental assistance. Per Miss Gray, "Since being with our program, Janey and her teenage daughter are now able to talk about issues at school or in the home and utilize the strategies and skills learned to help them better resolve their issues. Her children are thriving and are now receiving “Good Citizen” awards and her older daughter is also making Honor Roll in school." In addition, Janey was also able to receive Covid-Supplemental Funds through Greenbriar's Family Preservation program that have allowed her to repair her car. She is now both able to drive her youngest child to school and make it to work on time.
