A Window into Campus Life

Whether they were cheering on the Pilots at one of the final basketball games of the season, dancing the night away at the Dance of the Decades, or quietly praying and reflecting at one of the recent Campus Ministry retreats, students have been making the most out of the spring semester!

Spring Fever

We hope our Pilots enjoyed some down time during spring break! With spring weather arriving and coursework becoming more rigorous during the final stretch of the semester, it's not uncommon for students to experience spring fever and disengage after spring break. Without feeling like a “helicopter,” here are some tactics you can use to encourage your student to stay focused during the last six weeks of classes.

Show Your Pilot Pride

Once a year, the Pilot community (including our beloved Pilot parents and families!) comes together for 24 hours to raise critical support for scholarships, programs, innovative learning experiences, and student success. Join us for #PilotsGive to celebrate the UP community and help create positive change for our students! Whether you’re in Portland or in another country, check out the many ways you can show your Pilot pride April 3-4!

Maximizing the First College Summer

As the school year winds down, first year students will often feel a wide range of emotions: relief upon finishing their first year, excitement for summer freedom, sadness to be leaving their friends, and uncertainty about sophomore year. Courtney Campbell, Program Manager of First Year Programs in the Shepard Academic Resource Center, shares how first year students can maximize their summer to ensure a great start to their second year on campus.

Next Steps

We all can remember a time in our lives when we were unsure of our next step. Maybe you were in your early 20’s, looking for your first job, or relocating to a new city. Here are a couple of simple ways that you can help your student – and other Pilots – as they navigate their path forward. Read more here.

Planning Ahead: Summer Classes away from UP

Is your student interested in taking courses at another institution over the summer or participating in a study abroad program other than at UP? Does your student want to make sure that their external credits will count here at UP? If so, they need to have their external courses reviewed for pre-approval through their School or College. Learn more here!
