Beautifying Our Future Home on Barbur
|
Upper School students at Oregon Episcopal School painted 17 murals of their own design at the future home of Neighborhood House on Barbur Boulevard.
Two groups of OES students taking a class called Eating and Ethics have been studying a wide variety of topics around food security in a global environment. One of the culminating projects is this mural installation. The students worked with the OES Art department to draft their designs and paint them directly on the building exterior.
Neighborhood House is in the process of renovating a building at 8959 SW Barbur Boulevard for future expansion of our Free Food Market, Senior Center and community meeting space. The windows and doors are boarded up for safety during construction, so we are grateful for OES students' murals that beautify the space for all our neighbors to enjoy during the renovation process.

Un Nuevo Amanecer: Every Sunrise is an Opportunity
|
It took a lot of courage to start her own child care business. But with support from Neighborhood House’s Oregon Child Care Alliance, Olga Maldonado started Un Nuevo Amanecer in 2023. It took a year of work, but OCCA gave her a strong foundation to make sure Un Nuevo Amanecer would succeed and thrive.
Olga is the perfect OCCA success story: providing more quality, affordable child care slots for Oregon families while helping small business owners create generational wealth.

Thank You to Missio Community and North Highland Volunteer Groups!
|
|
|
A big group of volunteers from Missio Community helped with a deep-clean of the Free Food Market and the Senior Center, and promoted the Scattered Garden program. More than 50 adults and children spent hours on a Sunday in May to help out.
“Neighborhood House was our very first community partner when we started Missio,” said Lead Pastor Dom Kan. “We’ve enjoyed supporting the Free Food Market for many years.”
|
North Highland ran a food drive for the Food Market and brought in 1,179.5 lbs of food, which they helped sort and shelve. They also gave the Market parking lot a make-over with landscaping and badly needed re-striping with help from BDO GLOBAL Rail Products LLC.
If your group or organization is interested in volunteering, let us know! Email volunteer@nhpdx.org to set up a date.

Yakima, maker of camping and transportation storage equipment, held an internal food drive to support the Free Food Market.
It was their first time to partner with Neighborhood House and we look forward to many more years of partnership!

At our Welcome Home Hour of Hope event, we witnessed the power of shared voices and shared stories. Stories of bravery, tenacity, and love for community.
We are grateful to all who made the event so successful, raising more than $180,000 to support Neighborhood House programs that offer food security, child care, small business development and housing.
