Dear Student,
I write to you, and to other students from Los Angeles, as the Palisades, Hurst and Eaton fires continue to spread. The enormity of the damage and displacement that have occurred overnight, the knowledge that loved ones have been lost, and the uncertainty thousands face as evacuation continues, are devastating. We know that some students may be in the Los Angeles area during the winter recess, while others might be elsewhere, and we want to offer whatever support we can, no matter where you are right now. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with us if we can assist you during this difficult time. In addition, here is a list of resources that could support you, should you seek help.
If you would like to speak with a counselor, please know that the Wellness Exchange is available 24/7 via email or by calling (212) 443-9999. If you are experiencing significant distress and cannot wait, you can also schedule a same-day
urgent counseling session.
Should you need help with your plans to travel internationally or travel documents, you can book an in-person or zoom appointment with a staff member at the Office of Global Services or call (212) 998-4720.
If you are searching for community or a chance to center yourself, the Center for Global Spiritual Life offers numerous opportunities for you to engage in multifaith and mindfulness practices including access to
religious centers, prayer spaces, and meditation rooms and
clubs.
If you are experiencing any academic difficulties, please email the
Office of the Dean of Students, or connect directly with your advisor or faculty members to discuss additional support and flexibility. Please do not hesitate to utilize the resources outlined above, or to reach out to us directly if there is anything we can help you with.
Our thoughts are with you and your families. Know that the NYU community is here to provide support if you need it.
