The Master Teacher Leadership Development Program (MTLDP) is a 10-month, 5-course, cohort-based program for SMHS faculty who teach medical and/or health sciences students, residents and/or fellows. The program's purposes are to enhance teaching skills, develop education leadership potential, and foster scholarship in education. Fundamentals of Leadership is a seven-month, cohort-based program to improve the leadership capabilities of full-time SMHS faculty and staff. Congratulations to Leah Steckler, MD, and Christina Prather, MD, FACP, whose Geriatric ED proposal was recently accepted by the Washington Home Foundation. Their proposal supports a series of Geriatric ED programmatic enhancements, including an onsite patient navigator who will help arrange medical follow-up and needed social services for our elderly population.

Congratulations to Maranda Ward, EdD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Clinical Research and Leadership, who was recently selected to be a part of the 2023-2024 cohort of Campus Compact’s Engaged Scholars Initiative. The Engaged Scholars Initiative consists of a diverse group of early-career faculty and staff who are equipped to lead equity-focused change at their institution and in communities. Scholars were nominated by institutional leaders and were selected based on their commitment to centering equity in their civic and community engagement work.
Dr. Maranda Ward was also recently featured on Good Morning Washington ABC Channel 7 for the Juneteenth segment, where she addressed health equity in the District as it relates to the celebration of freedom. You can view the full video here.

New Online CME-Granting Workshop: Fostering a Psychologically Safe Clinical Learning Environment

Psychological safety is a property of a group or team, and it is needed to ensure learning and optimal performance. As leaders of learning teams, SMHS educators must know how to cultivate psychologically safe environments. There is a new self-paced, online, CME-granting module created and published by the CFE on Fostering a Psychologically Safe Clinical Learning Environment. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) IDEAS Learning Webinars are free resources for registered members. AAMC membership is also free. The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-racism Series page: https://cloud.email.aamc.org/ideas outlines all recorded webinars and additional resources.
The IDEAS Learning Webinars are led by experts with the purpose to provide "comprehensive, reliable information." These educational series are helpful to health and medical faculty, staff, and students who want to be proactive in their efforts to foster inclusive environments and promote equity in medical schools.

Register for a monthly webinar series hosted by the editorial teams of the AAMC’s 2 peer-reviewed journals, Academic Medicine and MedEdPORTAL. Sessions will cover the importance of publishing your education scholarship and practical suggestions for how to do so successfully, and will include interactive exercises to practice what you have learned and time for Q&A with the editorial teams of Academic Medicine and/or MedEdPORTAL. These sessions are open to all so please consider sharing with your peers, students, and others interested in these topics.
