CHEESEBURGER IN PARROT-DISE SUCCESS
Thanks to the support of our loyal donors, sponsors and community, the Warm Hearth Foundation’s 13th annual Cheeseburger in Parrot-Dise raised nearly $86,000 to help further its work to advocate, innovate and care for seniors in our community.
The cheeseburger throw down competition was fierce this year, with four competitors: The Huckleberry Café, Lost in Taste, The Happy Hog and 3 Brothers BBQ. Please be sure to support these amazing local restaurants, which generously donated their time, and come by the Village Center to congratulate the team at The Huckleberry Café for taking home the trophy and title of “Best Burger in the Burgs”!
The generous and enthusiastic support of our entire community made this event more successful than ever before. An amazing 31 local sponsors, 36 volunteers, countless donations from local businesses, residents and community members, and more than 300 attendees all came together in a fun and amazing show of community spirit. We extend a gracious and heartfelt thank you to our amazing community for allowing us to have fun with you while we come together to support the valuable work of Warm Hearth Village.

MEMORY MATTERS: A NEW FILM SERIES
Grab a seat—and maybe a friend! Warm Hearth Village is excited to introduce Memory Matters, a new film series exploring brain health through engaging films and thoughtful conversation.
Each screening will take a closer look at topics surrounding the brain, memory and healthy aging, using film as a starting point to learn, ask questions and challenge some of what we think we know.
We’ll kick off the series with Monster in the Mind, a surprisingly humorous and hopeful documentary that separates fear from fact while exploring the science and misconceptions surrounding Alzheimer’s disease.

SOMETIMES, JUST BEING THERE IS ENOUGH.
You don’t need special skills to make someone’s day a little better.
A hospice volunteer might spend an afternoon talking with someone, reading together, listening to favorite music or simply keeping them company. Sometimes there’s laughter. Sometimes there’s conversation. And sometimes, just having another person in the room is enough.
Warm Hearth at Home Hospice is looking for volunteers who would like to share a little of their time with patients and families. No experience is needed, and volunteers receive training and support.

That same idea—simply being there for one another—is behind our monthly Grief Support Group. The group offers a comfortable place for anyone experiencing loss to be around people who understand. You don’t have to talk or share your story. You can simply come and listen.

15 YEARS OF DESIGNING TOGETHER
This fall marks the 15th year of a unique collaboration between Warm Hearth Village, Virginia Tech Industrial Design and SFCS Architects, bringing generations together through thoughtful, real-world design.
Each year, Virginia Tech students step outside the classroom and into Warm Hearth Village to work directly with residents. Through conversations and feedback, students learn firsthand about the everyday experiences and challenges of aging—replacing assumptions with real understanding.
Residents remain part of the process as students develop and refine ideas designed to make life easier, safer and better for older adults. Over the years, the collaboration has even resulted in designs earning prestigious national and international awards.
As we celebrate 15 years of listening, learning and creating together, we can’t wait to see what this year’s students and residents design next!

SAVE THE DATE: TRICK-OR-TREAT TRAIL
Get ready for another frightfully fun afternoon at Warm Hearth! Our annual Trick-or-Treat Trail returns Friday, October 30, from 3:30–6 PM, with the trail winding from the Village Center to WWII Park.
This year’s festivities will include a live petting zoo, a Dr. Seuss-themed gazebo stop, crafts for sale, candy, family activities and plenty of spooky surprises along the way.
Last year, close to 800 guests joined us for our biggest Trick-or-Treat Trail yet, and we’re looking forward to another afternoon filled with costumes, laughter and community fun.
