Recycling Refresher

Somehow it's September, the kids are back in school, and we've finally gotten a break from the heat. What better time than now for a recycling refresher!
We all have an important role to play: recycling right. By only putting the right items in the recycle bin, we ensure our recycling system remains strong, which saves energy and water, prevents pollution, and supports our local economy.

Customer Satisfaction Survey
Clackamas County Sustainability & Solid Waste oversees the garbage and recycling companies in the county.
It's that time of the year, and we want to know what you, residents and workplaces in Clackamas County, think of your garbage and recycling service. Your opinion can help shape how Clackamas County provides garbage, recycling, and waste reduction services.
We welcome multifamily residents and staff to take the survey (available in both English and Spanish). It takes up to 4-minutes to complete and can help represent the provision of service to multifamily communities.
We thank you in advance for your time.

Choose to Reuse

Thanks to a new law, Oregonians can now bring their own containers to participating restaurants, food carts, grocery stores and other retail food establishments when purchasing food. Containers may be used for over-the counter-foods like meat, cheese and deli foods, beverages, bulk foods, to-go orders or taking leftovers home. It’s a great way to reduce single-use packaging and help businesses in our area save money.
Get in the habit of taking your containers with you. Containers cannot be used if they are dirty, chipped or cracked – and make sure they are suitable for the type of food or beverage you are getting.
Become a reuse champion and influencer in your community. “Reduce, reuse, recycle” is in that order for a reason – the further upstream we can reduce our consumption, the bigger the environmental and human health benefits. Reusing containers and reducing use of single-use plastic is a great way to have a positive impact in our region and world.
These are small, doable changes that can make a big impact, as noted by Clinton Street Coffeehouse: “It can feel like we are only taking small steps, but we know that if we can shift consumer behavior and suggest new norms for our coffee consumption, all our small steps can really add up,” said Kate Lor, the store manager. “In the last year, we estimate to have saved over 30,000 disposable cups!” [Source: 2024 article]

Repair Fairs

Do you have a beloved broken toy or did you loose the button to your favorite sweater? Don't fret! ClackCo Repair Fairs are here to help!
Bring your broken item (e.g. clothing, small electronics, small home appliances, etc.) to an upcoming repair fair and give a volunteer fixer an opportunity to fix it. While there is no guarantee your item will be successfully repaired, these events are free and can be a great way to learn repair skills, mingle with community members, and ultimately keep items out of the landfill.
Join us at one of our two remaining 2025 repair fairs, and keep your eyes peeled for our 2026 calendar:
  • Saturday, Oct. 4, 10a-1p - Oregon City Library (606 John Adams St.)

  • Saturday, Nov. 8, 10a-1p - CCC Holden Industrial Technology Center Building (19600 Molalla Ave.)
Can't make one of these events and don't want to wait until 2026? Check out the regional repair calendar for events outside of Clackamas County.
