ALL ABOUT THE OSA

The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region among the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared "the most biologically intense place on earth" by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the Peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of a lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than 5000 vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth.
WHERE THE OCEAN MEETS THE RAINFOREST

At the foot of the majestic Corcovado National Park are Carate and Matapalo, two beach communities perfectly nestled between the warm Pacific Ocean and the dense tropical rainforest. Find yourself in a naturally created corridor where the density of animals is greater than anywhere else in the country. You'll be staying in beautiful accommodations in the area, allowing you the perfect opportunity to experience the great biodiversity that exists here on the Osa. Wake up to see spider monkeys swinging in the fruit trees or exotic birds showing off their bright colors while flying overhead. Everywhere you’ll look, you’ll see abundant wildlife and incredible scenery.
OSA WEATHER

The Osa Peninsula is quite temperate and rarely experiences extreme high or low temperatures. The temperature seldom drops below 25°C (77°F) in the green season (May to September), and is usually around 30°C (85°F) in the dry season (December to April). October and November are considered the rainiest months (wet season) and because of this travel to and around the Osa can be difficult.

If you’re wondering during which season it’s best to visit, the green season or the dry season, we recommend both for different reasons. Of course in the dry season there is no rain so that’s a plus if you want to spend most of your time on the beach or get away from the snow and cold back home. However, if you are more into seeing wildlife, you will enjoy the green season. That’s when the turtles return and red-eye-tree-frogs can be seen more easily. As for the weather during the green season, you can compare it to the springtime where mornings are usually sunny but you get some afternoon and overnight showers. The great thing about the rain here is that it’s nice and warm and gives you a great excuse to completely rest and relax.
