| SGA Embraces Baseball at Cooperstown
The Senior Golfers of America traveled to Cooperstown, New York, to enjoy this very small town's tributes to baseball and golf. During the year, Cooperstown's population is 1,800 people, but on Hall of Fame weekend in July, upwards of 50,000 can be counted on to descend on "America's Most Perfect Village."
A lovely group of SGA participants opened the event with drinks and dinner in Otesaga Resort's charmng Hawkeye Lounge and Grille. It was an honor to welcome Hall of Fame members Jeff Leech and Kathy Oven, both of whom traveled to Cooperstown from the great state of Pennsylvania. It has been a few years since Kathy and her husband Dave have traveled with SGA, and having them back with the group reminded everyone of the special caliber of people who are SGA members. Kathy is renowned throughout the Keystone State and beyond as an early Golf Course Slope Rater, and also as an enthusiastic champion of the advancement of Girls Golf. We appreciate her tireless work for the game we all love.
Although rainy weather theatened, three good days of golf followed for a lovely week overall. Participants remarked each day about the beautiful progress of the fall color on the course, the surrounding mountains, and throughout the area. Everyone wants to return soon, hoping to see the fall vistas at their absolute peak.

The event closed out with awards in the Hawkeye's lovely Templeton Room. Event Winners at gross were Wayne Dadetto & Jane Harrenga. "Pam and I are enjoying our membership in SGA," said Wayne, who traveled to the mountains from Southport, North Carolina. "I really enjoyed our time here, and it has been a lifelong goal of mine to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. We enjoy the golf courses and resorts that SGA visits, but it is the great people we meet that we especially appreciate."
"It was a lot of fun to be here," said Jane, who lives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, "and Jim and I always love the SGA people and places. However, I must say that, for ladies, I wish this particular course could have been a little easier!"
Net winners were Sue Arnold and Jim Harrenga. Winning Best Ball Team was Wayne Dadetto and Judy & Mike Sullivan. Close to pin winners were Wayne Dadetto and Jim Harrenga. Kicking-it-Up-a-Notch award went to Judy & Mike Sullivan. Congratulations, everyone!

National Baseball Hall of Fame
Fenimore House Art Museum
Cooperstown Farmers Museum
In addition to its beautiful and historic Otesaga Golf Club & Resort, Cooperstown is a “village of museums,” including the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which opened in 1939 with the induction of Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Ty Cobb, and other baseball legends. SGA golfers and FOGs enjoyed exploring the Hall of Fame, plus other points of interest in the beautiful area.
The Farmers’ Museum, one of the country’s oldest outdoor living history museums, showcases rural life in 1845 in its village of historic trade and craft shops. The Fenimore House Museum is home to one of the country’s premier folk art collections, plus a spectacular new wing showcasing a very impressive collection of over 700 Native American artifacts.

News from the Carolinas: The President's Cup & Hurricane Ian
SGA Director Catherine Powell enjoyed a return trip to the President's Cup at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte this year. Catherine was very impressed by how well-organized and beautifully set-up the event was, but the highlight for her was following PGA Tour player Jordan Speith. Did you know that both Catherine and Jordan were born on July 27?
Director Cynthia Swanson was away from her home in Myrtle Beach when Hurricane Ian made land just 40 miles away at the small town of Georgetown, South Carolina. Cynthia has several friends and fellow church members who live in Georgetown; all came through the storm with little or no damage.
Neighbor Terry Clavet sent Cynthia this video of the ocean's breaching the sea wall at Arcadian One, the building where Terry, Cynthia, and SGA members Nonie Price and Frank & Mary Beam have condominiums. Although the video is dramatic and the storm made quite a mess, no major damage was sustained at the Arcadian. Thanks to all SGA members and friends who reached out with concern over Hurricane Ian.
