Welcome to Notre Dame. We are so excited that you have decided to become a new member of the Notre Dame family. As Director of First Year Advising, I am privileged to welcome you to what will be a year of transitions and traditions.
Your transition will involve a lot of change as you explore a new community, encounter new perspectives, and embark on an academic and intellectual journey of discernment and discovery. You will also soon encounter and contribute to the many wonderful traditions that make the Notre Dame community truly inspiring inside and outside of the classroom.
One of those traditions is how we invite new students into our community of scholars through integrative and personalized one-on-one academic advising. This summer, you will meet your First Year Advisor, a professional academic advisor who will support you as you grow into your new role as a Notre Dame student. Your advisor will ask a lot of you. In turn, you can expect a lot from them. They will be your academic connection this next year, serving as a source of knowledge as you explore the many and varied curricular and co-curricular opportunities of this great scholarly community.
As Assitant Provost Elly Brenner indicated, you'll hear from the Center for University Advising, First Year Advising, and your individual First Year Advisor via your Notre Dame Gmail account. (If you have not yet accessed your new Notre Dame Gmail account, please click here.) I encourage you to take full advantage of this critical communication during these first steps. By engaging fully in dialogue, you equip our team with the ability to better serve and celebrate you. We’ll seek to walk alongside you not only during this monumental time of transition and tradition but throughout every turn of your Notre Dame journey.
To begin this journey, I invite you to review the First Year Advising Summer Calendar and Checklist, linked here and available on the Center for University Advising’s website. This Summer Calendar and Checklist represents the first steps of your academic journey at Notre Dame. Your timely completion of required tasks, review of important materials, and communication with your First Year Advisor will help you lay the foundations of a coherent educational plan that addresses your unique abilities, aspirations, interests, and values. Please note that an immediate action item listed on this Summer Calendar and Checklist is your completion of the Summer 2021 Center for University Advising Questionnaire before May 27.
In time, we hope to help you find a home at Notre Dame. Until then, welcome to ND and Go Irish!
Sincerely,
Katrina Higgins Director, First Year Advising
