Welcome to the March edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter. As I write this, we are getting another snow flurry here in Fort Wayne, and I admit that I can’t wait for warmer spring weather! Our students are looking forward to next week’s spring break, and I hope you have an opportunity to spend some quality time with your student over the break.
As you may know, Feb. 18 was Indiana Tech's Annual Day of Giving. I am so pleased to report that Indiana Tech raised $115,100 from 444 donors! A big thank you to all of you who gave to Indiana Tech to support our students. The donations we received will help fund scholarships, student support, athletics programs, laboratory equipment and so much more. We know that many of you sacrifice to help your student afford a college education, and President Einolf and Indiana Tech’s faculty and staff work efficiently to keep tuition costs as low as possible. Your generosity helps us do even more for students and makes a big difference to enhance our students’ Indiana Tech experience.
Beginning in the 2025-26 academic year, Indiana Tech will be restructuring its traditional academic calendar to include a block of time on Wednesdays for students to focus on Wellness, Academic support, Research, Reading, Internships, Office hours and Relationships. We are calling them WARRIOR Wednesdays. Most classes will be on a Monday/Thursday and a Tuesday/Friday schedule to leave free time for students on Wednesdays. Students can choose to discuss classwork with a professor, work on labs, work on a class project, visit our career center to discuss job opportunities, gain work experience at an internship, read a book, exercise and/or get some much-needed rest. Our students have expressed their excitement about this innovative change to our schedule, and we are looking forward to beginning this initiative in the fall. For more information, go to: https://www.indianatech.edu/warrior-wednesdays.
With the arrival of spring break, our winter sports are nearing the conclusion of their seasons and the start of national championship competitions. Good luck to our men’s and women’s basketball teams, our men’s and women’s hockey teams and our men’s and women’s wrestling teams in their national NAIA tournaments!

- I have three kids: Matthew (10), Charlotte (8) and Benjamin (7).
- I am the committee chair of Pack 3049, the largest cub scout pack in northern Indiana, with nearly 90 scouts grades K-5th grade.
- I am a hobbyist professional stunt kite flyer.
- I can fix almost anything on a car or house.
- I am a Star Trek Nerd (TNG all the way)!

Dr. Staci Lugar Brettin - Professor of Marketing and Management- The first time I ever took a flight, I traveled to Russia. I spent a week between Moscow and Sochi in 1997 as a volunteer on a service project.
- In 1999 I decided to jump out of a perfectly good plane with some friends who loved skydiving. As much as the experience was a rush, I'm totally fine not repeating that experience.
- I always wanted to teach at Indiana Tech, so when I saw an ad in 2006, it resonated with me. It said, “Your dreams didn’t die. They were just on hold. Come realize your dreams at Indiana Tech.” I wanted to teach at Indiana Tech because it reenergized people's dreams. It is authentic. That means a lot to me.
- I'm all about project-based learning! One example of this is that students in BA 3460 Evaluating Start-Up Potential are mentoring the students at the Fort Wayne Community Schools' AMP Lab once a week. My students are advising the AMP Lab's high school students on starting a business, developing pitch decks for their ideas and building relationships with the students to help build their confidence as future university students.

Final Thoughts from a Fellow MomAs you know from previous editions of this newsletter, Karl and I have two adult sons who live in Pittsburgh (Nick) and New York City (Thomas). Like many of you who have a student away from home at Indiana Tech, we understand that time with your children is a precious commodity. We are fortunate that both Nick and Thomas call and FaceTime us regularly, but in-person visits are not that frequent since we all lead busy lives. We will actually all be together on a spring vacation later this month, and I am looking forward to reconnecting with them! I hope you have a similar opportunity with your student over our spring break.
Karl and I continue to travel a lot for Indiana Tech visiting alumni around the country. We are always inspired by the stories we hear from our alumni about the ways Indiana Tech changed their lives, and we appreciate their generosity as they help our current students by funding scholarships and donating to academic and athletics programs. We will be in Minneapolis and Miami in the coming weeks–maybe we will run into you there!
Thanks for your continued support of your student's journey at Indiana Tech! I will send the final e-newsletter of this academic year around the third week in April. We will have more details on our Commencement Ceremony, which will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on May 10, 2025.
Please reach out to me if there is anything I can do for you!
