Safety Resources:

AlertVU:

Ensure your contact information is uploaded into Your Enrollment Services (YES) by August 15 for AlertVU notifications. AlertVU sends real-time notifications in the event of an emergency that poses an imminent threat or danger to the Vanderbilt community. Examples of such threats include a tornado forecast to strike Vanderbilt or an active assailant on campus. Please review your contact information in Your Enrollment Services (YES) regularly to ensure you receive messages at your desired personal points of contact.

VUPS:

Vanderbilt University Public Safety (VUPS) is dedicated to the protection and security of Vanderbilt University and its diverse community and includes the Vanderbilt University Police Department (VUPD). We recommend saving the VUPD emergency number (615-421-1911) in your phone.

VandySafe:

The VandySafe app is the official safety app of Vanderbilt University. The app provides users with several safety services, including contacting VUPD via phone or text, viewing emergency guides, submitting iReports and sharing locations instantly with VUPD, and initiating a “virtual walk home” feature.

Walking Escort Service:

Vanderbilt University Public Safety provides walking escorts for students, faculty, and staff walking to and from any location on campus. The telephone number to call for a walking escort is 615-322-2745.

Emergency Phones:

Emergency phones are conveniently located throughout the campus. They are easily recognizable by the blue light atop the pole which houses the emergency phone. Each phone has an emergency button that, when pressed, automatically dials the VUPD Dispatch Center. An open line on any emergency phone will activate a priority response from an officer. An officer will be sent to check on the phone user, even if nothing is communicated to the dispatcher.

Emergency Preparedness:

The emergency preparedness website provides guidance for when emergencies occur on campus and offers disaster preparedness materials and resources. We recommend you familiarize yourself with the Emergency Guides and the Active Assailant Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Quick Reference Flyer.

Cybersecurity:

The cybersecurity website provides security tips to help prevent students from falling for a scam. Scammers often use emails, text messages, and other channels to advertise fake job opportunities to steal personal information from students. We recommend you review the Cybersecurity and Scam Awareness websites.

Navigating Nashville:

VandyRide:

The VandyRide shuttle bus, administered by VUPS, provides shuttle service to designated locations on campus during the fall and spring semesters. The service consists of vans that operate 6:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Learn about other transportation options.

Free Public Transit:

WeGo Public Transit is Nashville’s provider of local and regional bus and commuter rail service. Vanderbilt’s program provides all students with free access to WeGo buses, commuter rail trains, and paratransit services through the use of the “QuickTicket by WeGo” app. Check your Vanderbilt email for registration instructions and start riding for FREE. Ridehail Services:

Ridehail service like Uber and Lyft can be used on campus. There are eight designated pick-up and drop-off locations around campus. Learn more about ridehail locations and the safety guidelines here.

Mobility Rides:

Electric golf carts are available to provide rides for those with medical or accessibility needs. If you would like to access the pre-approved mobility rides, contact Student Access through the online portal or at 615-343-9727.
