Every traveler has a story, and airports are full of unexpected plot twists. A missed connection. A lost phone. A moment of panic. A difficult goodbye. That's where PDX People come in, helping rewrite stressful moments into ones with happier endings.
Every day, airport employees go above and beyond to make PDX feel a little more welcoming, a little less stressful, and a lot more human. Whether they're solving problems, offering a reassuring hand, or simply showing kindness when it's needed most, they prove that the people behind the airport are what make the experience unforgettable.
Each quarter, the PDX People customer service awards celebrate employees whose actions exemplify our core values of being friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful. Read more about employees recognized for going above and beyond from April through June 2026.

Mural Painting: Art is underway near the TriMet MAX platform at the south end of the lower roadway. We’re working with a Portland-based artist to transform the space with a colorful mural that celebrates transportation and transit. Painting will take place throughout August and September and may occasionally impact pedestrian flow. Feel free to stop and

admire the progress, but please avoid interrupting the artist while she's painting.
Airport Way Roadwork: Tuesday, Aug. 4, through Thursday, Aug. 6, crews will be filling potholes on Airport Way. Expect lane closures on east and westbound Airport Way, with flaggers present.

Two Giant Murals Honor the Locals Behind the New PDX |

You see it when you enter the newly completed arrivals space: larger-than-life faces smiling back at you. These 156 black-and-white portraits, spread across two murals, shine a spotlight on a few of the many locals who “made PDX the local-est airport yet,” as the walls read in both English and Spanish. What better way to celebrate those folks who made PDX than to help passengers get to know them?
