UWM Faculty, Staff and Students:
As explained in the document, university employees, including student workers, may not use work time or UWM resources, including but not limited to university phones, computers, email systems, software applications (such as Teams), listservs, letterhead and office supplies, to engage in political campaign activities.
Students and employees who are not on work time and members of the public are free to engage in political campaign activities in public spaces. Also, organizations may rent UWM facilities to engage in these activities under the same rules that apply to those organizations for any other purpose. (Access to such facilities may be limited due to COVID-19.) Within the bounds of these parameters, UWM strongly encourages all students, faculty and staff to be engaged in the political process and to vote in all elections.
Students who would like to vote on campus can find information about registering to vote at uwm.edu/vote. UWM is an early voting site, and any City of Milwaukee resident can register and vote weekdays in the UWM Student Union from Oct. 20 to Oct. 30.
Another way to get involved this year is to work at the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Many Wisconsin polling locations lack workers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We encourage students who are healthy to sign up — and get paid! — to serve our democracy and their communities. Learn more at powerthepolls.org.
