UTA Researcher Earns AHA Award
for Aging Research

A University of Texas at Arlington researcher is leading a new study that investigates cardio-sarcopenia—the combined loss of heart and muscle health in aging adults.
Kamal Awad, assistant professor of research in the Bone-Muscle Research Center and faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology, has received the American Heart Association Career Development Award, providing $231,000 over three years. His proposal ranked in the fourth percentile nationally, highlighting its innovation and potential to better understand how changes in heart and skeletal muscle occur together in aging.

Spring ‘26: Family’s nursing dreams come full circle
|
When Ariana Moore took one of her final nursing classes at The University of Texas at Arlington, she unknowingly stepped into a story with roots planted years earlier.
Her professor, Veronica King, had taught Ariana’s mother, Rosalina Moore, at Central Texas College in 2017. That same year, Dr. King was interviewed by Ariana—then an eighth grader—for a school project on healthcare careers.

CONHI Faculty appointed to INACSL

The UTA College of Nursing and Health Innovation Smart Hospital proudly announces two faculty with new appointments within the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) leadership. Jennifer Roye has been named to the INACSL Board of Directors, a distinguished role recognizing her exceptional leadership, innovation, and sustained contributions to simulation-based education. In addition, Katherine Kreis has been elected to serve on the INACSL Nominations and Elections Committee. These appointments reflect the strength of leadership within UTA's CONHI and the Smart Hospital, reinforcing the institution's position as a leader in innovative, technology-enhanced nursing education.

UTA Center for Rural Health and Nursing hosts 2026 Rural Health Collective

The UTA Center for Rural Health and Nursing (CRHN) hosted the 2026 Rural Health Collective, a week-long virtual event focused on advancing rural healthcare across Texas by bringing together experts, faculty, and students to share knowledge, collaborate, and address key challenges.
“Rural healthcare challenges cannot be solved in isolation. Events like the Rural Health Collective create space for partnerships, research, and shared solutions that directly impact rural communities,” said Aspen Drude, CONHI CRHN manager.
The event raised awareness of rural health issues and reinforced CRHN’s commitment to supporting rural communities across Texas.
