A CONHI ALUMNA COMES HOME
|
Renee C.B. Manworren, PhD, APRN, PCNS-BC, PMGT-BC, AP-PMN, FAAN returns to CONHI as PhD Program Director; the very same program from which she received her doctoral degree in 2010. She came back to UTA because she knows, first hand, the importance of the work being done here.
“We have been in an international nursing shortage my entire career, and our numbers are dwindling. Being a nurse is hard work, physically, mentally, even socially, but our passion for caring and making a difference is contagious,” said Dr. Manworren. “I came back to UTA because UTA is developing a lot of incredible nurses in novel ways and with contagious kindness. I came back to UTA to develop nurses as clinical scientists with the wisdom and virtuosity to break the rules - and break the unhealthy part of healthcare – by innovating caring and innovating nursing to make a difference.”
Welcome Dr. Manworren!

A special "Thank You!" goes to Dr. Daisha Cipher. For over two years, she has provided guidance, support, and encouragement to her student, Janeen Biggs, while she pursued her PhD. Together they recently published an article in the journal Teaching and Learning in Nursing.
The article, Course outcomes and academic characteristics of Hispanic nursing students, details a large retrospective comparative cohort study, which examined course outcomes (including course failures, drops, and withdrawals), academic variables, and demographics amongst Hispanic and non-Hispanic RN to BSN students.

Paula Fehlauer really, really likes us here at CONHI. So much in fact, that after she earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Health in 2021, she returned to CONHI to attend nursing school!
“Public health is such an important field, and without it, our communities are not healthy or protected. It is the big picture of health! At the same time, I also have a big passion for the science part of it; the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, so I decided to also become a nurse,” said Fehlauer. “As I learned more and more about nursing and completed my clinicals at different hospitals, it reinforced everything I learned about public health (and about nursing too). It is important to consider the environment/ lifestyle of the patient to plan interventions and provide resources accordingly.”

One in five U.S. mothers report mistreatment while receiving maternity care. This can have financial implications, as patients who delay routine treatment often need emergency services that drive up costs, Kyrah Brown, UTA assistant professor of public health, told the Dallas Morning News. The story was also reported by the Denton Record-Chronicle and Trendepro.

Erin Carlson, UTA clinical professor and director of graduate public health programs, spoke with the Dallas Observer on the recent spike of COVID-19 cases in Dallas County.
