I've always been passionate about how to improve access to healthcare, and in particular, improve access to primary care services. After graduating in 2012, I worked as a healthcare consultant with Huron Consulting for 5 years. I then returned to Vanderbilt to obtain my Master of Science in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Following graduation, I began working at UT Health Science Center - San Antonio's Primary Care Center. I met my husband Ryan in 2012 and we got married in 2017. We just welcomed our first daughter, Josephine Leah Winograd, on November 5, 2022. We also have a very sweet schnoodle named Ziggy who has quickly become a loving big sister. I'm taking a temporary break from work to raise my 4-month-old daughter. I feel lucky to have the most amazing family. It's often said that the key to long-term happiness is being with the perfect partner. Marrying my husband Ryan was the best choice I ever could have made. Hillel was always the place that I felt most "at home" on Vanderbilt campus. I could always be comfortable just being myself. Whether that was meeting friends for lunch, raiding the chocolate chips hidden above the upstairs refrigerator while having a heart-to-heart with the Program Director Dani Shulman, late night study sessions in the library (the perfect reprieve when the libraries were full during finals), making friends on Birthright and last minute deciding to extend our trip together, Disney-themed Shabbat (Shabbat was not only fun but also the best meal on campus), or attending a High Holiday service and singing along to the same prayers that I had grown up with. Hillel always grounded me and I was able to fully relax and be myself. I loved working as a Front Desk Assistant throughout my undergraduate career and being able to authentically tell prospective students all the wonderful things about Vanderbilt and Hillel.

I am a graduate of the School of Engineering, Class of 2015! I stuck around Nashville after graduation, working for one manufacturing company before going to work for Bridgestone in 2019, where I am currently a Quality Systems Lead in the Americas HQ downtown. I knew Jewish Nashville was where I wanted to settle down, so I'm so lucky to say I found myself a local Nashvillian, Ethan, and we got married on 12/31/22 by Rabbi Joshua Kullock of West End Synagogue (see photo). My favorite Hillel memory, topping even the best Falafel at Midnight's and Matisyahu concerts, was my great-uncle Ben Schulman's 100th birthday celebration in Nashville in 2017. We got to dedicate the Dor L'Dore Tree of Life Donor Wall with him there, after he made my dreams as student treasurer a reality and helped fund the foundation stones of the Tree. It was such a special weekend.

I took a year off for Army Reserve training after graduation and then headed to law school at the University of Georgia where I received a JD in 1972. In 1971, I married Judy Lavine (Peabody '69) and after law school we moved to Washington, DC and this year are celebrating 53 years of marriage, and 50 years in Washington. I went from more than a decade of government service, including as a staff counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives, to the private sector and spent almost 30 years with the Washington office of a large New York law firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher. We have a son, Harris, who is the Publishing and Program Coordinator for Effie Worldwide, the "Oscars" of marketing. I retired from law practice at the end of 2018 and have been auditing classes at Georgetown and American Universities, studying with a Chasidic rabbi, teaching leadership to DC public school pupils, serving on a variety of non-profit boards, and trying to find an adventure or two every year, in addition to the annual vacation we take to Nantucket, Massachusetts every August (this will be the 44th!). Our son is our proudest achievement, and achieving a successful legal career is second along with multiple opportunities to learn and exercise leadership. There wasn't a Hillel when I went to Vanderbilt, so my favorite memories are becoming a grown-up.

Vanderbilt Hillel will be starting a building renovation project to update building security, expand the meat kitchen, and increase the amount of usable space in the building. This campaign also includes funds to expand our staff, hold additional large scale programming, and complete a strategic planning process. We are asking Vanderbilt Hillel Alumni to consider making a gift to the campaign through becoming one of our 20 for 20 Donors with a $20,000 gift or one of our "Chai" 5 Alumni with a $5,000 gift. Donors will have two calendar years to pay their pledges.
To learn more about the campaign, contact Shannon Small, Development Director, at shannon.small@vanderbilt.edu.
