PDX People Honored at Customer Service Awards
PDX employees are always one step ahead. They're observant – always tuning in to what customers need – and go above and beyond to make it happen. Even better? They work seamlessly with their airport co-workers to make sure every customer leaves with a smile. The truly exceptional customer service at PDX is what sets us apart and provides a passenger experience that's as unique and special as our community.
To recognize actions that truly stand out as extraordinary and support our core values, we host the PDX People customer service awards each quarter. Read the stories of airport employees honored from April through June 2024 or watch the event recording.

What's New with PDX Next: Baggage Claim, Call to All Walks and Temporary Certificate of Occupancy
Baggage Claim: From now until the end of Phase 2 construction (Winter 2025), the closed area south of baggage carousel 2 will be a construction zone. Crews will install an edge guard wall and close off a large area on the south end of baggage claim.
As a reminder, door T1772 (adjacent to carousel 2) is now in use for secured area badgeholder access between baggage claim and main bag road. Door T1773 is no longer accessible from baggage claim. Additionally, elevator T9 will remain in service, but a vestibule will be located on the deplaning level. Employees will need to use door T1772 to gain access.
TSA Practice Runs: Check out the new space, grab snacks and help TSA practice using their new equipment! Stop by any time between noon and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, or Monday, Aug, 12 – we want this to feel like a real TSA queue, so unexpected surges are ideal. Expect to stay about 30 minutes, though more time is welcome.
Call to All Familiarization Walks: Don't miss the familiarization walks happening in the new main terminal on Monday, July 29, Wednesday, July 31, Thursday, Aug. 1, and Friday, Aug. 2 . See the calendar listings for details.
Temporary Certificate of Occupancy: The Temporary Certificate of Occupancy for the new main terminal is now in hand! Effective today, it's officially a public space – no personal protective equipment or PDX badge required to enter – and is accessible to those with a business need. To get more specific, "business needs" include installation and testing, moves and employee training and familiarization. The area should not be used for breaks. Also, keep in mind that restrooms aren't available in the new space until Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Mark Your Calendar: Celebrate in the New Main Terminal!
Come celebrate alongside your fellow PDX People who, with help from thousands of locals – including the builders, the foresters, and yes, a few doughnut chefs – made PDX the local-est airport yet.
- Let us know if you're coming by registering for one of the days. This helps us know how much food and fun to provide!
- This is an open house, so you can stop in any time during the event hours.
What: Party in the new main terminal, inspired by Pacific Northwest nature, designed by local architects, and built using responsibly sourced local timber.
- Food, swag and fun – enjoy something to eat, a photo booth and some exclusive swag to commemorate the moment.
- Win a basket of goodies – prize drawings for gift baskets from the new concessions opening at PDX in the coming months.
This event is for all PDX People – send this along to your co-workers so they can join the festivities.

Be Knowledgeable: PDX Dress Rehearsals
Over the next week, we’re holding two “dress rehearsals” of the new main terminal space at PDX. The first, smaller rehearsal is on Tuesday, July 30, and the large public rehearsal is on Saturday, Aug. 3. Here’s what you need to know:
Expect lots of participants flowing from the parking garage through the existing ticket lobby into the new space. There’ll be plenty of folks staffing the rehearsal and directing the flow of participants – they'll be wearing bright yellow shirts.
If someone asks you where the rehearsal is, you should direct them to Level 2 of the short-term parking garage for registration or ask someone in a yellow shirt for assistance.
On Tuesday, July 30, only: During this event, there will be a simulated emergency inside the new main terminal space to test our airport procedures. You may hear alarms, but there’s no need to evacuate unless you hear, "This is not a drill."

Guess Who’s Coming to PDX?!
We’re sharing some short video intros to the 12 local shops coming to the new main terminal. Guess who's brewing up something special for the new PDX? Here’s a clue: they’re a PDX fave turning green beans into golden, delicious coffee. Each batch is roasted with care, making every sip the perfect pick-me-up. It's Portland Coffee Roasters! They can’t wait to welcome you with the best brews at their newest airport location – opening Wednesday, Aug. 14.

PDX Honored with FAA Accessibility Award
In recognition of our outstanding achievements in airport accessibility, PDX recently received the Civil Rights Accessibility Advocate and Partner Award from the Federal Aviation Administration. The award honors airports that demonstrate excellence in meeting the letter and the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and was presented just a day before the 34th anniversary of the ADA being signed into law on July 26, 1990. From the sunflower lanyard program to our sensory room, partnership with GoodMaps and ongoing collaboration with our PDX Access Committee, we're committed to making our space usable for everybody and ensuring all who pass through PDX feel welcome – learn more about this important work.

PDX in Pictures
The llama love keeps coming, this time from national media! USA Today shared a video from earlier this month as tourists and Oregon locals were greeted by two llamas wearing blankets that read "I love PDX." The emotional support llamas help anxious travelers, roam the airport alongside staff and bring a little surprise and delight to the airport experience. As we said over on Instagram, "It’s hard 'work' but some llamas gotta do it!"
