Lourdes Tapia Faria Uplifts with Respectful Service
Lourdes Tapia Faria with Volaris Airlines was nominated by two PDX travelers.
"Lourdes treated us with kindness and respect. She was patient when we didn’t know how to fill out an immigration form and helped us complete it. She brought my husband a wheelchair to the ticket counter and made sure an agent came to wheel us through TSA. Overall, our experience in Portland was wonderful thanks to this kind young lady. Good job, PDX."
"I have a broken leg and couldn’t stand for long, let alone roll my luggage. This kind and patient young lady saw me and asked if I needed help. She didn’t care whether I was flying on her airline  she just helped. She went searching for a wheelchair, helped me with my bags, and it turned out I was on the Frontier flight she was working. She connected me with an agent to help me get to the gate and moved my seat so I’d be more comfortable on the plane. She was kind, patient, and so sweet. We need more people like her. Thank you."

What's New with PDX Next: Parking Garage Work and D/E Bypass Closure
Parking Garage Work: Starting today through Thursday, Nov. 20, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., some of the helix ramps in the short-term parking garage will be closed for concrete monitoring and conduit installation. Impacts include possible backups onto Airport Way during busy times and closure of one of the three ticket dispensing lanes. During this time, vehicles parked on affected levels won't be able to change levels internally, however they can still exit the garage.
D/E Bypass Closure: On Wednesday, Nov. 19, through Friday, Nov. 21, from 11:59 p.m. to 3 a.m., crews will use cranes to place materials on the roof. During this time, the north pedestrian bypass will be closed, and the Concourse E alternate exit route will be in use. This route is exit only and access to Concourse E is through Door E12002.

PDX Surveys: We Want to Hear From You!
As PDX People, you’re the heart (and honestly, the brains) of our airport. No one knows this place better than you  which is exactly why we need your voice.
We’ve got two important ways for you to help influence what’s going on at PDX:
Shape the Future of the PDX People Program
Take the PDX People survey and help us make workplace programs even better – from training and recognition to the way we communicate with you. It’s short (about 5 to 10 minutes), totally anonymous, and the first 500 people who complete it receive a $5 incentive after the survey closes. Deadline: Sunday, Nov. 30. Take the survey now.
Help Plan the Future of the Airport
Big picture: PDX is growing. Over the next 20 years, aviation activity is expected to nearly double. The PDX 2045 Master Plan Update is our roadmap to make sure we’re ready – and we want your perspective as we evaluate different strategies and improvements. Your feedback helps us understand how these potential changes might affect you and how we can best support your work and our community as PDX evolves. Deadline: Monday, Dec. 1. Take the survey now.

Annual Public Safety and Security Awards Honor Excellence, Leadership
The Port of Portland Public Safety and Security team recently held their annual awards breakfast where they honored employees for their hard work, leadership and other notable accomplishments.
Karyl Larson and Jan Childers, with the Port of Portland Police, were both recipients of the 2025 Award of Excellence.
Karyl passed away in August and is deeply missed: "Karyl’s absence is profoundly felt, not only for the work she did but for the person she was. Her legacy of service, humility, and compassion continues to inspire us every day."
Jan was recognized for her commitment to inclusivity: "Jan fosters positive relationships with underrepresented groups and promotes cultural understanding and awareness within the department, ensuring equitable treatment and access to services for all community members."

Honoring Native American Heritage Month
Held in November, the theme for this year's Native American Heritage Month is "Lessons in Resilience, Story and Difference."
Native American stories hold powerful lessons in resilience reminding us of the strength found in community, the wisdom carried through generations, and the beauty of difference as a source of learning and connection. This month, find a Native story, and listen for the beauty, morality, and imagery to unfold and come alive for you.

People attending the PDX Deaf Community Day event.
PDX in Pictures
Over the weekend, we hosted an event to honor and support the Deaf community, giving attendees a chance to explore PDX, meet community partners, and try out accessibility tools including Aira ASL.
Missed it? Here’s a highlight: Aira ASL is a free tool that travelers and employees can use while at PDX that connects Deaf and hard of hearing individuals with a live ASL interpreter through their phone.
Download the Aira ASL app, tap "Call Interpreter," and you’re instantly connected via video to a professional ASL interpreter who can help with real-time conversations – whether it’s navigating TSA, answering questions at a restaurant, or getting info at the Rental Car Center.
