More Ways We Celebrate Exceptional Service
At PDX, we love celebrating the moments that really shine – the ones that reflect what we’re all about: being friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful.
Last week, we talked about the PDX People Customer Service Awards. But guess what? That’s just one of the ways we recognize the amazing work you do. Here are some other ways we acknowledge great service:
Annual Excellence in Service Awards
Each year, we throw a special event to celebrate standout employees, selected by their teams to be honored as customer service "superstars." It’s a night to remember: Winners are invited to a festive evening with managers and colleagues to highlight their hard work over the past year.
PDX People Appreciation Week
Every September, we dedicate a whole week to celebrating you! Think food trucks, music, swag, and good vibes all around.
On-the-Spot Recognition
Sometimes great service happens in the moment...and we’re ready for it! Managers have envelopes with $10 gift cards to PDX shops and restaurants, ready to hand out on the spot to say thanks when someone goes above and beyond.
Want to learn more about PDX People recognition? Check out the recognition programs and read about past winners on the PDX People website. You can also nominate an employee who embodies the PDX People values and serves as a shining example of great customer service for next quarter – submit a nomination now.

Be Knowledgeable: Don't Skip Employee Screening
You may have noticed that TSA and Covenant Security periodically hold surprise screenings in the B/C and D/E security bypasses, as well as other public-to-secured access points. If you’re approaching one of these areas and see a screening taking place, you must follow through with the process. Sure, it’s tempting to turn around, but that’s not allowed, even if you’re in a hurry. Failure to follow through may be labeled as refusing screening and could result in a security violation or even in badge suspension. Thanks for your help keeping PDX safe and secure.

Sanford Biggers'
Sanford Biggers' "Odyssey" Exhibit Opens at PDX Gallery
A solo exhibition featuring artist Sanford Biggers – commissioned for the large-scale suspended sculptures titled "Odyssey" hanging in the Concourse Connector – is now on view in the PDX mezzanine art gallery. As the exhibit shows, the themes and design of "Odyssey" are inspired by Biggers’ ongoing series "Codex," which features mixed media paintings and sculptures made from antique quilts. The artist’s exploration of quilts began in 2009 when he was commissioned to create artwork for the Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, a stop on the Underground Railroad. In Biggers's work, quilts are hung, stretched over custom-built frames, or sewn onto sculptural armatures, transcending their original function. Biggers’ then applies paint, collages elements, and layers various materials on the quilts, creating entirely new works of art. This process speaks to themes of transformation, resurrection, and the ongoing dialogue between the past and present.

Halloween at PDX
If your workplace permits, you're encouraged to dress up for the day From classic witch hats to modern memes, dressing up is a great way to show your Halloween spirit. Email pictures of you and your co-workers in costume to PDX People Communications!
Remember these tricks to only get treats from the security teams at PDX:
  • Avoid masks or face coverings that make it difficult to identify you
  • Don't bring fake weapons (knives, hatchets, or anything resembling a weapon)
  • Your security badge must always remain visible and unobstructed
  • Escorting children is strictly prohibited
ALSO: Every year, the Security Badging Office creates an immersive Halloween experience. In years past, they've transported visitors to a construction work zone, an old mining town, and even Spongebob's home on the floor of the Pacific Ocean – Bikini Bottom. So what do they have planned for 2025? You won't know unless you stop by on Friday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.!
