Schulich Alumni Help Canadian Businesses Achieve their International Ambitions

The Global Business Access Network (GBAN) is an initiative of the Centre for Global Enterprise to recruit Schulich MBA alumni with international business experience as coaches for Canadian SMEs seeking to engage with international markets. The 'proof of concept' launched in July 2017 and has generated considerable interest on the part of SMEs and organizations operating in the SME support ecosystem. As GBAN moves into its next stage of development we are pleased to share an update of its progress to date. 

Schulich Takes First Place at the McGill Strategy Competition

Congratulations to team Schulich for taking the first place at the McGill Strategy case competition! The competition was sponsored by AIMIA and teams were tasked with solving their current market challenges. Team Schulich featuring Joe Flagler (MBA '19), Catherine Sim (MBA '18), Jonathan Linton (MBA '19) and Grishma Saheba (MBA '18), showed their outstanding ability to tackle challenging business problems.

Congratulations to Schulich MBA Candidates Philip Gingras (MBA 2018) and Marta Michalek (MBA 2018) winners of the 2018 Canada's Next Top Ad Exec competition.

Vote for the Schulich MREI Team in the CanInfra Ideas Contest

Support our Schulich MREI team by voting for their proposal: "Sustainable Mobility Model for Canada" in the top 20 Semifinals of the Caninfra Ideas Contest.  
The CanInfra Ideas Contest is a six month public challenge for crowdsourced proposals from across Canada to tackle the country’s biggest infrastructure challenges.

Careers in Fin-Tech: A Schulich Finance Alumni Panel

On March 7th, Schulich alumni gathered for an industry panel on Careers in Fin-Tech where technology and financial services intersect in a rapidly growing and newly mapped area in finance. Moderated by author Patricia Meredith (PhD ’09), attendees heard from panelists Michael Ajise (EMBA ’11), from JP Morgan Chase, Melissa Boward (MBA ’08) from RBC, Avi Pollock (MBA/LLB ’96) from AviPol Ventures, Brad Roach from Scotiabank and Raza Siddiqui from Zoompass Inc.

Dean Horváth visits New Delhi


Dean Dezsö J. Horváth hosted Schulich Alumni in New Delhi at a cocktail reception on March 9th. All appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with their peers, the Dean and Schulich Administrators as well as hear the latest school updates.

Women in Leadership - Inspire to Aspire Conference

Schulich Student Club, Women In Leadership, hosted their 14th annual Inspire to Aspire Conference in Toronto on March 9th. The event featured insightful keynotes and workshops on the topics of rewards and challenges facing women in their pursuit of leadership roles. The conference brought together some of Canada’s top female executives, academics, and corporate professionals including Schulich Alumnae Michon Williams (MBA '08), Aine O'Flynn (MBA '96), and Adriana Morrison (BBA '07).

Student-Mentor Bowling Night


On March 19th, the Graduate Business Council invited Masters level students and Schulich Alumni Mentors for several rounds of bowling. Students enjoyed meeting Alumni for some non-traditional networking and bowled up a storm with spares all around!

Schulich StartUp Night

On March 22, Schulich hosted StartUp Night 2018 on campus. Alumni and Students from Schulich and Lassonde School of Engineering pitched their ideas to a panel of industry leaders for a chance to win the grand prize in two new categories: “Taking off” (for concept stage) and “In Flight” (active building stage). Schulich Alumna, Jenise Lee (MBA '12) won the top prize for her "In Flight" venture, Purpicks.

Dean Horváth visits Ottawa


Dean Horváth was in the nation's capital on March 22nd for an alumni dinner.  He was joined by Ottawa Chapter President Eli Ilatov (MBA '11), and Paul Labbé, Chair of the Dean's International Advisory Council.  Alumni had the opportunity to reconnect and learn more about the School's current initiatives.

Schulich International Case Competition

The Schulich International Case Competition returned on March 3rd with a new format, attracting teams from MBA programs focused on sustainability, natural resources extraction and responsible business. Seven teams from six schools competed for the grand prize of $10,000, presenting their ideas on the equitable distribution of wealth from mining activities in unstable jurisdictions. Presentations were evaluated by a diverse group of 18 judges from 11 organizations. We thank Schulich alumni for their time and support as judges.

Schulich MREI students win Developers’ Den Competition

On March 23rd, Schulich hosted the 8th Developers’ Den international real estate case competition, hosted by the Schulich Real Property Alumni Association (SRPAA) and Schulich’s Brookfield Centre in Real Estate & Infrastructure. Schulich's MREI team took home the top honours with our MBA team placing third. Over 80 alumni were in attendance, including final round judge Geoff Grayhurst (MBA ’91), President, Dorsay Development Corporation, who was joined by Mauro Pambianchi, Chief Development Officer, SmartCentres REIT; Toni Rossi, President, Real Estate, Infrastructure Ontario; Fred Waks, President and CEO, Trinity Development Group; and Alan Vihant, Executive Vice President, Great Gulf Homes.
