Whew, what a summer! We hope that, amid the heat and uncertainty, you found ways to enjoy the Northwest’s most glorious season.
If you’ve caught a flight to or from PDX lately, you’ve surely noticed that parts of the airport have entered their cocoon phase. (We’re not calling the old ticketing area a caterpillar, exactly, but when the main terminal bursts out of its chrysalis … wow.) If navigating around the temporary walls gets perplexing, just remember the old design maxim: More walls means more room for art.
This month, we’d like to introduce you to the artists you’ll soon encounter: Three bright talents designing massive murals and sculptures inspired by our landscapes and cultures. The illustrator turning every detour sign into a moment of joy. The installation artist whose piece in the soon-to-open Concourse B will astound from every angle. Don’t just come to the airport because you want to get through security on time. Spend a few minutes exploring the art.
