Badger Crop Connect Returns for 2024!

The Badger Crop Connect webinar series provides timely crop produciton updates for Wisconsin farmers on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of each month from April to October. All webinars run from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. and you have an opportunity to have your crop production questions answered by UW Madison researchers and Extension outreach specialists.

Sign up! Wisconsin Pest Text Alerts

For the 2024 growing season, a new Insect Pest Text Alert service will be available to Wisconsin crop producers and agricultural professionals. Developed by the Dr. Emily Bick Lab at UW-Madison, in collaboration with UW-Extension and DATCP, this service is designed to deliver concise, timely field and forage crop pest notifications and updates through text messaging.

Text messaging will begin in late April or May, and we expect to provide up to 15 short updates throughout the season.

HPAI in Dairy Cattle - Get the latest updates

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) is an emerging issue that poses a significant threat to the health and well-being of dairy herds. HPAI, primarily known for its devastating impact on avian species, has recently been observed and identified in dairy cows. This influenza strain, characterized by its rapid transmission and morbidity among affected animals, requires coordinated action from all stakeholders.

The UW Extension Dairy Team has gathered key information regarding the outbreak in one helpful resource.

Wisconsin Farming: Insights from the 2022 Census of Agriculture
Every five years the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) undertakes a detailed inventory of farming operations across the country. The most recent, the 2022 Census of Agriculture, aims to provide a detailed snapshot of the nation’s farming economy, including information on farm demographics, production practices, land use, and economic trends. The intent of this issue of WIndicator is to provide an overview of recent trends in Wisconsin farming using the Census of Agriculture. We pay particular attention to the changes since the last Census in 2017 to understand trends in key metrics for Wisconsin agriculture with some references to longer term trends (1997 to 2022).

Join the Grazing Farm Families of Ozaukee County for a Day with Jim Gerrish!

Jim Gerrish has a BS in Agronomy and a Masters degree in crop ecology. He served 22 years in a beef/forage system research and outreach program at the University of Missouri. Spend the morning with Jim learning about rotational grazing systems, and after lunch, participate in a pasture walk at a local farm to see rotational grazing in action.
