As we commemorate the start of the 2025 Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, I want to take a moment to honor and celebrate the invaluable contributions you make to The University of Texas at Austin and beyond. Your dedication to scholarship, research and creative work sits at the heart of our University's mission and has a profound impact on society.

Graduate students are key contributors to the research projects that advance knowledge and innovation across all sectors of our economy. Your commitment to your work improves lives by bringing new discoveries into the world and developing solutions to real-world problems. Whether you are conducting experiments in the lab, analyzing data or exploring new theories, your work makes a profound difference.

Graduate students also bring beauty and thought-provoking perspectives through the visual arts, performance and literature—helping to address the key issues of our time and point us toward the future. Your work challenges us to see the world in new ways and inspires us to appreciate the variety and complexity of the human experience.

In addition to these endeavors, many of you are key contributors to the educational mission of the University. You inspire and mentor undergraduate students, fostering a culture of learning and intellectual curiosity. Your efforts in the classroom and beyond help shape the future leaders and thinkers of tomorrow.

I recognize the challenges and sacrifices that come with pursuing advanced degrees, and I am grateful for your perseverance and resilience. Your contributions to our campus are immeasurable, and we are proud to support you in your academic journey.

This year, the Graduate School has partnered with the Graduate Student Assembly for a series of events celebrating our graduate students. We would like to invite you to participate in the events below. A complete list of events is available on the Graduate School website.

The first event is a lunch for graduate students today, April 7 at noon in Main 212. (RSVP is required—see the link below). I hope you will join members of the Graduate School to meet your fellow graduate students while enjoying lunch.

Come grab coffee to start your day. The Graduate Student Assembly will have an open tab at Lucky Lab Coffee Co. in the Gates-Dell Complex. Valid for one 16 ounce coffee until tab runs out.

Empower Your Pitch Finale and Celebration
April 9, 2025, 5-7:30 p.m. | FAC 2nd Floor

The stage is set for a live, in-person competition at the Office of Career and Life Design! In the exhilarating third and final round, an esteemed panel of judges will select three winners, while the audience chooses an additional winner. Appetizers, wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks will be served.

Lunch at Four Brothers Venezuelan Kitchen Food Truck*
April 11, 2025, noon-2 p.m. | Perry Castañeda Library

The Graduate Student Assembly will be offering graduate students a free arepa and yucca fries at the food truck outside of Perry Castañeda Library.

* For events with the Graduate Student Assembly, they are asking students to please bring a physical copy of their UT ID OR bring another form of ID along with certification of graduate school attendance at UT (a screenshot of an unofficial transcript that says last semester attended Spring 2025 is acceptable).

T-Shirt Design Contest

The Graduate School is calling on graduate students to design our newest t-shirt! All currently enrolled master's and doctoral students at UT Austin are eligible to compete.

One winner will receive $300 for their design, which will be printed on t-shirts given out at New Graduate Student Orientation and other Graduate School events!

Deadline to submit your design is May 2, 2025.
