We can't believe its May! Gigs, Staff Updates, + More!

Read all about it!
The Spring 2022 Performance Program is Almost Ready to Hit the Stage!
Seriously, the music coming out of rehearsals this season is impressing the heck out of us!  These shows are on track for some pretty epic performances and we will be announcing venues and show dates + times soon. We are also honestly so happy to see the students interacting and socializing again!  It's heartening to see them just laughing and reigniting friendships along with making music together.  Great work all around!  Stay tuned for show detail for the first two weekends in June.  As soon as we know, you will know.
The Adult Performance Program!

The Adult Performance Program is really cookin' now.  Show director Jaime has assigned the last few songs on their set list and we have booked our venue for the end of season show. Our adult programs run just like the ones for the young people, and is a proven format for moving your musical skills forward. For adults that want to learn to play in a band but don't want the pressure of the live performance we are still offering our Adult Rock 101 on Thursday evenings and we have room available in the group now!  If you have any questions contact Rose on  301-589-7625 or on silverspring@schoolofrock.com.

Say Hello to the  Newest Members of Our Team...

Maynold Moreno Is a Drummer, Singer, Song writer and multi-instrumentalist.  Born in Washington DC, Maynold studied at the Drummers Collective in NYC. His career as a drummer has taken him on a world wide tour with the latin rock band  ECLIPSE. He has opened up for bands like ZZ Top while a drummer for hire in Austin, TX and performed in a variety of venues nationwide with bands like L.A. Calling, Industry Overflow, Love Hate Affair and many others. In 2010 he released his first album.  Maynold has taken a few years off from touring to be with his family and raise his 2 boys Harrison and Hendrix. He is happy to be teaching drums at School of Rock and doesn’t miss life on the road.
Scott Barber   was born and raised in Southern Maryland and began playing drums when he was eight years old. At the age of thirteen he started playing local gigs being reimbursed for his services with burgers and cokes. Once Scott got a taste of playing his instrument in a band setting, and the joy it could bring, he never looked back. Scott has over thirty years of extensive live band experience as well as studio experience. He has calibrated and preformed with countless musicians, locally and nationwide. As a U.S. Army Veteran, his service abroad gave him a unique perspective on music. He witnessed the universal language and power music, to bring people together regardless of any ethnic or social barrier.  The church has also been a key part to Scott’s musical development and he still plays for church services regularly.

Face Mask Are Optional

The following message was sent out last week to our students and their families.
Given the public school systems and most public places we all frequent have been mask optional for some time, we have decided to move to a mask optional policy in our school beginning May 1, 2022.  Mask Optional truly means wear a mask or don't wear a mask - it's your option.  We are not banning masks, merely giving students the option.
As a team, we have tried to think through many scenarios and have landed on the following which we hope will be a good compromise all around.

1.     Community Spirit
If a student shows up wearing a mask for their lesson, their private instructor will also don a mask.  Likewise, if your teacher is wearing a mask, please kindly wear yours for the duration of the lesson. Groups will remain mask optional for students and staff.

2.     Continuation of Safe Cleaning & Hygiene Practices
We will continue to ask those entering the building to wash their hands and we will continue to use our Protexus unit daily on high-touch surfaces along with our regular cleaning practices.

3.     Please Stay Home if You Are Ill
One of the silver linings has been that everyone is much more aware of protecting the community by staying home if you have any symptoms of illness, not just Covid-19.  Please continue to do this.  This one thing helps on many levels so thanks in advance.

4.     We Will Continue to Monitor Outbreaks
We are monitoring the virus and may reinstitute masking and other protocols as needed. We will, of course, always err on the side of safety for our students and staff and will continue to monitor conditions.

We know this is a process and sincerely desire for all to be comfortable with their choice, regardless of what that choice may be.  Thank you for all you have done to help us navigate the last two years together – you rock!

THOUGHTS FROM THE MOTHERSHIP
with Our Music Director -  Brooks
SHOW PREP- It's that time of the season again! How are you using the next few weeks to prepare for the end of season show right around the corner? If you're in your first or second season, ask your instructor, director, or even some of the kids who've been in the program longer about how to prepare for a performance. The goal for everyone is to not have to think about your part onstage. Do the work this month in lessons, rehearsals, and at home to make sure that when you walk on stage in a few weeks, you're confident, prepared, and ready to rock out.

Summer 2022 Intern Program Info Coming This Month

Did you know that School of Rock offers summer camp internships to Performance Program students ages 12 and up?  It's a fun way to do more music, develop your leadership skills and musicianship all at the same time.  Interns sign up for a week at a time of summer camp where they help the Director by teaching parts, helping campers feel welcome and keeping things flowing along with other duties.  You can sign up and get more info HERE. Let Brooks or Rose know if you have any questions.

Our Summer Make Up Program

We rock all summer long! Even if you will be vacationing or out-of-town this summer you can keep up with your music lessons and groups.
Here's how it works:
Between the dates of June 15th and August 31st 2022, tell us when you will be out by completing a form and we will guarantee you get a make up lesson. Additionally, we will guarantee you a make up lesson during the summer months providing you give us 24 hour notice of your absence via email. If you give less notice, most likely we will be able to accommodate a make up but can't guarantee it. You can find more info and sign up by visiting the programs site, here.
