September 2024 eNewsletter
|
|
|
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for getting our students and departments off to a great 2024-2025 academic year! I’ve already been to many student events and hosted groups at my home, and I am loving the energy, excitement and sense of community you have helped build.
We will be together again on Wednesday, September 18 for our first Divisional meeting of the year, which will be in Risa Commons from 8:30-9:30 a.m. From 8-8:30 a.m., we will have breakfast available, and encourage you to connect with colleagues during this time. And, since we can now distribute our kick-off t-shirts reflecting the new WashU logo, we will be handing them out after the meeting concludes.
This eNewsletter is full of information for the next month, including how to submit content for our October newsletter. Be sure to check out the events, and if you can, please stop by Dr. G’s Fun House, which is September 5 from 2-4 p.m. on Mudd Field. It is FREE for students, faculty, and staff.
Warmly,
|
Anna “Dr. G” Gonzalez
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Please join us at two events happening this week. Today, September 4, we are hosting “A Conversation on free speech with Chancellor Martin & Professor Epstein” from 4-5 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium, Knight Hall. Chancellor Martin and Law School Professor Lee Epstein will be discussing freedom of expression on a university campus. The event is moderated by Student Union President, Hussein Amuri.
Thursday, September 5 will be the first Dr. G’s Fun House event of the academic year from 2-4 p.m. on Mudd Field. There will be food, games and music. Stop by to engage in community and welcome students.
Please encourage students in your area to attend both events.

The Center for Career Engagement (CCE) will host local and national organizations for the new two-day Career Expo on September 25 & 26 from 3-6 p.m. in the Athletic Complex. The fair is open to all WashU students and alumni and has different industry focuses on each day of the expo. More information can be found on the CCE website.

RSVP Center to host public lecture
|
To lead into Domestic/Dating Violence Awareness Month in October, the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP) Center is hosting the public lecture, "Sexual Choking and Consent: A Conversation with Debby Herbenick," on September 30 at 7 p.m. in Graham Chapel. Dr. Herbenick’s research focuses on sexual trends among adolescents and emerging adults, aligning closely with the work of the RSVP Center. Notably, she authored the April New York Times article "The Troubling Trend in Teenage Sex."
Dr. Herbenick is a distinguished Provost Professor at Indiana University and serves as the Director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion within their School of Public Health.

Feature your upcoming events and programming
|
Let us help advertise your events and programming! We are accepting submissions from across the division to be included on a large banner design that is displayed on a prominent bulletin board on the first floor of the DUC. Submissions will be compiled into one design that will fill the entire board.
To ensure your submission is included in the design, please submit by the second Friday of each month. The deadline for the October board is next Friday, September 13. Questions? Email StudentAffairsComms@wustl.edu.
