CTSI: The U's newest institute

The University of Utah announces a new institute on campus: the Utah Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), formerly known as Utah Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). CTSI's expansive infrastructure is available to every college on campus to translate discoveries in order to improve human health.

“The CTSI helps ensure that the community has access to these discoveries sooner; to go beyond just saying ‘it works’ and actually pushing it from the pre-clinical space to patient access and opportunities," explains CTSI co-director Rachel Hess, MD.

UPDATED CLINICAL RESEARCH STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE RESOURCES

Under the direction of the OQC, the University Cross-Departmental SOP Collaboration Group works to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and provide guidelines that can be used across the University. Despite a wealth of existing resources, they work to provide additional resources and timely updates to previous material.

A protein that helps regulate calcium signaling within heart cells could play a key role in preventing chronic heart failure, according to an international study led by U of U Health scientists and published in Nature Communications. Therapeutics targeting the protein could eventually help alleviate heart failure.
