Diversity & Inclusion at Tufts
On June 19th, the Tufts community gathered to celebrate Juneteenth in order to explore structural racism and to discuss how Tufts can be a more equitable and anti-racist institution
Action Plan
- Institutional Audit and Targeted Action: To remove all structural racism from our university, identify how it can be embedded at all levels and build upon and learn from the anti-racism work being done across departments.
- Campus Policing Initiative: This initiative will benchmark best practices of how other universities manage policing on their campuses and ask critical questions about the power dynamics of policing at Tufts.
- Public Art Initiative: This initiative will focus on the public art located around campus as well as determining the images and historical identities that will be reflected across campuses.
- Compositional Diversity: This group will be charged with making specific recommendations on how to recruit and retain a more representative university community.
- Equity & Inclusion Effort: This effort will look at academic support services and new education and training programs that can help ensure that issues of equity and inclusion are addressed in Tufts classrooms and throughout the Tufts community at large.
Division of Student Diversity & Inclusion (DSDI)
This change signifies the importance of the work occurring across the Africana, Asian American, FIRST, Latino, LGBT, and Women’s Centers as well as highlights the expertise this group has with diversity, equity, and inclusion.
With the University’s recommitment to anti-racist work and uplifting the importance of equity and justice, the DSDI will continue to work towards supporting efforts that affect students served by these centers.
