Over the weekend, alumni were back on campus in full force for Homecoming 2018, including the Class of 1968 for their 50th reunion. Fun was had and memories were made. It sure is great to be a Laker for a Lifetime!

Academic Majors Fair
Volunteer at the Academic Majors Fair
Share what it's like to work in your particular field. The Academic Majors Fair on November 7 is an opportunity for undecided students to explore a variety of degrees and career paths before declaring a major. Each major offered at GVSU will be represented with a table staffed by faculty who teach in that discipline, along with an alumni volunteer who works in that field.

Alumni in 10 Interview: Sarah Daniels '09 
Sarah Daniels, '09, earned a bachelor's degree in psychology while at Grand Valley. She now works as the Territory Manager and Communications Lead at Kraft Lake Insurance/Farmers Insurance. She has served on the Young Alumni Council for five years, growing friendships and developing leadership skills while giving back to her alma mater. Read on to learn more about Sarah's Laker Effect!

GVSU Named Best in Region, Best Value, Most Innovative by U.S. News
Grand Valley State University has once again been named a top university in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. In the "2019 Best Colleges rankings" Grand Valley ranked 1st among Michigan's public universities and 3rd overall in the category for "Top Public Regional Universities in the Midwest." GVSU is also ranked among Midwest universities for "Best Value" (14th), "Most Innovative" (9th), and "Best Colleges for Veterans" (19th).

Sixth Annual GVSU Teach-In 
The sixth annual Teach-in, entitled Power, Privilege, and Difficult Dialogues takes place November 7 and 8. Sessions are held in Allendale and Grand Rapids and address topics related to inequality and systems of oppression, as well as social justice and liberation. Alumni are encouraged to attend.

GVSU Receives $1 Million Grant to Study Impact of Climate Change on Arctic Vegetation
A Grand Valley faculty member has been awarded a $1 million grant by the National Science Foundation to work with students to study the impact climate change has on vegetation in the Arctic tundra. The funding will support the next five years of research by Robert Hollister, professor of biology, and a team of five Grand Valley undergraduate and graduate students in northern Alaska. The team will specifically explore how climate change impacts vegetation in the regions of Utqiagvik, Atqasuk, and Toolik Lake.

Seven Included In 2018 GVSU Athletic Hall of Fame
The 2018 Grand Valley State Athletic Hall of Fame class was inducted at the Hall of Fame banquet on Friday, Oct. 5. New members include: Danielle (Alexander) McGuckin, volleyball (05-08); Aaron Beebe, swimming (09-12); David Kircus, football (98-02); Steve Lyon, baseball head coach (99-12); Krista O'Dell, cross country/track (02-05); Pete Trammell, men's basketball (05-09); and Crystal (Zick) Strickland, women's basketball (04-08).

Lakers Finish Strong At Loyola Lakefront Invitational
The Grand Valley men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Chicago for the 41st Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Beach on Saturday (Sept. 29) and saw strong performances from both squads. The women finished as the top Division II team and second overall with 79 points, while the men claimed the team title as they recorded 59 points.

Jamie Hosford Football Center Expansion
The football center will be expanded and named the Jamie Hosford Football Center. Jamie, who passed away in 2014, was the first athlete in Grand Valley history to receive 12 varsity letters and earn All-American honors in two sports.This expansion is a critical step in continuing the excellence that has made Grand Valley’s football program the most successful in NCAA Division II history. All gifts given will be recognized by name on the donor wall in the building.
