| Arthritis pain rising: How state policies matter
|
New research from UTA CONHI shows that differences in state welfare policies are linked to rising arthritis-related joint pain across much of the U.S. The study, led by Feinuo Sun, UT Arlington assistant professor of kinesiology and the senior author of the paper in The Journal of Pain, investigated how state-level policies–including minimum wage laws, Medicaid coverage, other welfare programs and education levels–affect pain outcomes.

A University of Texas at Arlington study reveals that even children who meet standard developmental milestones may be falling behind in age-appropriate motor skills. Dr. Walter Wray, Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah Division of Geriatrics, was the speaker for the Fall 2025 CONHI Clinical Translational Research Forum Seminar series. Dr. Wray's presentation, titled "The Physiology of Heart Failure: What do we know, and where should we go next?", was presented as part of the Barry McKeown Lecture series.

Public Health Meets Urban Planning
Faculty and students from the UTA Master of Public Health (MPH) program and the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) collaborated for an interdisciplinary workshop to reimagine safer, healthier, and more equitable streets on UTA's campus. Cameron Walker, AICP, Executive Director of the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization and Dr. Melissa Oden, adjunct assistant professor of Public Health and MPH practice experience coordinator, co-facilitated the event.

CONHI Master of Science in Athletic Training faculty members Dr. Adam Annaccone, Dr. Laura Kunkel, and Dr. Meredith Decker all presented at the 13th World Congress, hosted by the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy, in Dublin, Ireland October 16-18. The conference is held every two years and this year’s theme was Elevating and Uniting Sports Medicine.
