One Month Until the Start of School!
The start of the 2015-16 school year and the opening of Waverly-Belmont is only one month away! This week you should have gotten an email from the PTO about getting your children ready for school academically.
Next week - be on the look out for a PTO email with a school supply list.

The PTO needs you! We need parents to help make the PTO effective. Please sign up on our website to chair a committee.
The standing committees are: Enrichment, Hospitality, Social, Room Parent, School Grounds, Community Partnership Program (student mentorship program), and Health and Wellness. Descriptions are available on the website.
Sign up for the Walk/Bike Program
The Waverly Belmont Walk/Bike (WB)2 program will provide parents and students a fun and easy way to get to school. (WB)2 is made up of one or more parent leaders, who gather students at designated stops along a specific route and walk with them to school.
Our first route will run from the main Sevier Park parking lot to school along 12th Avenue. Parents can drop their students at the first stop at the parking lot or at one of three stops along the route. The route's first stop at the parking lot will likely be around 7:30 a.m. Subsequent stops are likely to be 12th and Paris (7:36 am), 12th and Gilmore (7:40 am), 12th and Caruthers (7:43 am), and Waverly Belmont (7:50 am). Official route times will be available by late July.
We will add routes in various spots (ex. down 12th coming south, on 10th, on Belmont) throughout the year as there is more interest in the program. We will need a minimum of four students to create an official route.
If you are interested in learning more about (WB)2 please email Erin Block
Cub Scouts - Informational meeting July 7
Cub Scouts is for ALL boys in 1st-5th grade and focuses on things like citizenship, outdoor activities, environmental awareness, health and safety, and community. Cub Scouting has been around for over 100 years and there are 22 Cub Scout Packs in Middle Tennessee Council.
In Cub Scouts, boys are organized by grade level into “Dens”, each of which works towards earning a rank advancement over the scouting year by completing different projects and learning about a variety of different things – things like how to maintain your bicycle, visiting a fire station, basic first aid, and going camping. The collective group of Dens at the site are called a “Pack” and meet monthly to hand out awards to the boys and recognize their accomplishments, and to do larger, group activities.
In order for Cub Scouting to succeed, it requires the leadership of volunteer adults. You don’t need any background in Scouting or any prior knowledge; you simply need to be willing to help direct your son’s Cub Scout Den or Pack. There are lots of local volunteers to help with questions, organization and ideas.
If you are interested in getting Cub Scouts started this fall at Waverly Belmont, please come to an informational meeting Tuesday July 7th at 7pm at Zeitgeist Gallery – 516 Hagan St (near Greer Stadium). Mark Bixler, a volunteer with the district, former Cub Scout leader at Glendale, current Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout troop 93, and Eagle Scout, will be leading the discussion and working to get Waverly Belmont “set up” for the fall. No childcare is provided at this meeting – the content is intended for parents.
If you are interested in scouting but cannot attend, please email Mark at mbixler@mzarch.com to get on the email list for the potential Pack.
