CIA President + CEO Grafton Nunes retires June 30

As CIA heads into summer, we prepare to say a fond farewell to Grafton Nunes, President + CEO of 12 years. Read more about his tenure and legacy in the latest edition of Link magazine here. During Commencement, CIA awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in recognition for his leadership. He joins a prestigious group of 18 others who have received honorary degrees from CIA in its history. He came to CIA in 2010 and will leave as the College prepares to celebrate its 140th anniversary. Congratulations, Grafton! 
CIA looks forward to welcoming Kathryn Heidemann as the College's 11th President + CEO beginning July 1. 

End-of-season party with CIA, moCa and Grog Shop

Visit the Season Shutdown Party June 3 starting at 2pm. Celebrate the closing of the Winter/Spring 2022 Season and kick-off PRIDE in Cleveland across three locations: moCa, Cleveland Institute of Art, and The Grog Shop. Sip, snack, and enjoy a night of art, film, talks, and music. Stop by CIA to see We Want Everything in Reinberger Gallery from 2 to 3pm before the show closes June 10.
Celebrated artist and the second recipient of moCa’s biannual Toby’s Prize, Jade Kuriki Olivo, will premiere a new film, "LEXII FOXX AND ALETHIA RAEL • TRANS WOMEN AND TWO SPIRIT PEOPLE," at Cleveland Institute of Art's Peter B. Lewis Theater at 3pm. More details on the day's other events here

CIA is host site for FRONT International Triennial 

In partnership with FRONT International, the Cleveland Institute of Art will mount four unique solo exhibition projects by noteworthy artists—Jacolby Satterwhite, Dexter Davis '90, Loraine Lynn '14 and Alexandra Noel—as a part of Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows, the 2022 FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art. In addition to FRONT International, CIA will also serve as a host site for the CAN Triennial. You Are Here: The Way We Transcend will be on view from July 8 through August 31 in the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery. A reception will be held from 4 to 7pm Friday, July 29, and Jill Yanik Eisert '08 and Seneca Kuchar '21 are among the featured artists.

Let The Cape Fly on view at CWRU art gallery

Let The Cape Fly, a solo exhibition by rising senior Derek Walker is on view at the Art Studio Gallery at Case Western Reserve University (2215 Adelbert Road). It celebrates and explores the durag, a popular hair garment in Black culture that is used to protect hairstyles. The exhibition will remain on view through June 3.

2PINK4U? opens June 3 at Praxis Fiber Workshop

2PINK4U?, a solo pop-up exhibition by rising senior Bentley, will open during a reception from 6 to 8 pm Friday, June 3 at Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District. The exhibition also will be on view from noon to 4pm Sunday, June 5.
The show will feature large-scale tufted artworks that transform images of feminine fragility into badges of feminine strength. The artwork in the exhibition creates tokens of strength by recontextualizing gendered motifs, such as flowers and the color pink, by pairing them with empowering imagery. 

CIA alums and faculty receive performance discount

CIA alumni and faculty will receive a 25% discount to "Tales of the Body: Body-Go-Round: Round1" by collective A, which includes CIA alum Changyeob Ok '17. A production of multi-disciplines, "Body-Go-Round" uniquely combines contemporary dance, visual installation, interactive media art, and music making in a live, mixed reality setting. The performance will take place at 3pm July 10 at the Dodero Center for Performing Arts at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio. Details here

"Color Me Boneface" to premiere at Cinematheque

Visit the Cinematheque on June 2 at 7pm for the world premiere theatrical screening of "Color Me Boneface," Robert Banks’ complete cycle of Dexter Davis-inspired short films. The longtime friends and CIA alums also have an exhibition by the same title on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland through June 5.

Anthony Everovich '38* The video walkthrough of "A Thrilling Act, the Art of Anthony Eterovich (1916-2011)", is now available on the Massillon Museum You Tube page.
Richard Andres '50 will have work on view in Richard Andres: Selected Works 1950 – 1975 at WOLFS Gallery in Beachwood, Ohio from June 9 to July 28. An opening reception will take place from 5 to 8pm on June 9. 
Ron Testa '65 will have work in the 86th National Midyear Exhibition 2022 at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio from June 19 to August 14, and in Food - The Aftermath at Praxis Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis from June 18 to July 22.  
John Nottingham '72 and John Spirk '72 were featured by WKYC in Cleveland for 50 years of design innovation at Nottingham Spirk. Read the article and watch the video here
William Moore '84 has work in the 91st Annual Online Juried with the National Art League in
Douglaston, New York; GOLDEN: 50 and Over and the May Show Best of the Best 2022 virtual exhibitions with Las Laguna Art Gallery in Laguna Beach, California; and Sculpture at the Kavanagh at the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, Illinois. Work also appears in Artist Portfolio Magazine.
Judy Takács '86 has work in the The 12th May Show at Lakeland Juried Art Exhibition at the Gallery at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio. The show also includes work from Pam Pastoric '77, Diane Pribojan '88, Diane Thayer-Miller '90, Todd Hoak '91, Russell Stephanchick '93Kristina Walter '08, Tina Janek '10 and CIA Glass Studio Manager Zac Gorell
Lori Kella '97 was named Literary Artist of the Month for June by Heights Arts in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
Susan Danko '98 will have work in Night Forest at Deep Dive Art Projects in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District as part of the CAN Triennial from July 8 to August 28.
Lauralee Hutson '01 curated Fiber Tales, on view at Article Art Gallery in Cleveland's Waterloo neighborhood. The show will run from June 3 to July 15. An opening reception will take place from 6 to 9pm on June 3.  
Anne Kibbe '04* was honored through the creation of the new Anne Kibbe Residency Program for Women at Future Ink Graphics in Cleveland. 
Erika Neola '05 is currently the Director of Post Production at JWALK, a Shiseido Americas- owned creative agency. Her recent projects include Campaign motion & stills projects featuring two new Shiseido Ambassadors, Hunter Schafer (star of HBO's Euphoria) and Megan Rapinoe (U.S. Women's Soccer Team Champion). 
Georgio Sabino III '09 and Danny Carver '80 will showcase the work of their Cleveland Municipal School District students in Young Visions 2022 with Christie's in New York. The exhibition is part of Christie's Studio in a School program. 
Amber Ford '16 discussed her work with Ideastream in Cleveland. Her work will appear in Missing History of Massillon: Unheard African American Stories at the Massillon Museum in Massillon, Ohio beginning June 11. 
Erykah Townsend '20 discussed her work with Gulf Today
Destyni Green '21 and Orlando Caraballo '18 are the inaugural professionals selected for the Arts Administrator-in-Residence program with ATNSC in Cleveland. 
Violet Maimbourg '21 had work in Studio Montclair's 25th Annual Open Juried Exhibition, ViewPoints 2022 in Montclair, New Jersey, and in BY VISCERAL EFFECT at Strata Arta in New York.
