Compassionate Customer Service Takes a Front Seat with Rusty Temple
Rusty Temple (he/him) with Avis Budget Group was nominated by Camille Buchanan, a Port of Portland employee.
"Rusty chose to stay near a customer who was having a medical issue until help arrived. He could have just called for help and then walked away, but instead he chose to stay until the medical response team arrived...however long that might take. Commendable!"

Terra Cascadia Takes You Inside a Mountain
Step into Brad Johnson’s journey with Terra Cascadia and the landscape that sparked it all: Mount St. Helens. During an awe-inspiring visit to the volcano’s crater with the Mount St. Helens Institute, Brad experienced “the drama of deep time, the wonder of active geological processes, and the return of life,” which reignited his passion for making art. To capture the iconic landscape for the new PDX terminal video walls, Brad took to the skies with Envi Adventures, snapping hundreds of photos to build a 3D “point cloud” model. He then animated it to reveal multiple perspectives – even a view from inside the crater.

Portland Tribune: All-wood Ceiling Highlights PDX Terminal Remodeling
Over the next three weeks, the Portland Tribune is devoting its front page to the stories behind our new main terminal. For Week 1, the focus is on the massive all-wood ceiling, made with 3.5-million board feet of Douglas fir sourced entirely from within 300 miles of the airport. The article also dives into how the master planning process shaped the project, our sustainability goals and how we're working to "meet the region’s air transportation needs without compromising the livability and quality of life of future generations." Still to come: The Tribune talked with passengers and workers about PDX's new look (Nov. 20), PDX's hyper-local businesses and merchants (Nov. 27), and the local artists and craftspeople who helped create the new airport (Dec. 4).

Central Utility Plant team in front of the boilers.
A Warm Send Off for PDX Boilers
50 years of hot takes – and we’re finally turning off the heat. Meet Sampson and Delilah, two 1974 boilers operating in our PDX Central Utility Plant, who worked tirelessly 24/7, 365 days a year, to keep PDX cozy for half a century. We celebrated their incredible service with a proper sendoff: Cake! Because how else do you honor retirement after 50 years on the job?
As we transition to a new, eco-friendly heating system that’ll reduce our carbon footprint, we want to take a moment to thank the crew who kept this “living and breathing” steam system running like clockwork. Y’all are truly the MVPs of warmth. Here’s to Sampson, Delilah, the team that kept them running...and the end of an era.
