Coder Wins $10M Grant from NASA with Help from ORE
When Jim Coder, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering, arrived at UT in August 2016, he brought with him an idea for a NASA-funded $10 million research project. Once Coder’s white paper was accepted, he only had 45 days to pull together a full proposal. One of his first steps was to reach out to the Office of Research and Engagement for assistance.

Q2 FY20 quarterly research activity report
The Quarterly Research Activity Report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2020 is now available for download on the Office of Research and Engagement website.The Quarterly Research Summary is a fiscal year-to-date comparison of award, proposal, and expenditure data.

Call for Proposals: Engaged Scholarship Incentive Grants 

The 2021 Engaged Scholarship Incentive Grants Program is now accepting applications.
Application Deadline: Friday, March 6, 2020 at 5 p.m.
Proposals may be for community-engaged projects or partnerships that promote the principles of engagement as applied to research or community-based research.
David Mandrus
David Mandrus, the Jerry and Kay Henry Endowed Professor in the Tickle College of Engineering, has received a five-year $1.7 million award from a leading scientific research foundation to pursue cutting-edge work in the emerging field of quantum materials.
A University of Tennessee, Knoxville, microbiologist has received a portion of a $3.1 million grant from the US Department of Energy to study how global warming could affect peatlands and their vast carbon stores in the future.
Tarek Hewezi, UTRF Spotlight
A professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the UT Institute of Agriculture, Tarek Hewezi's research focuses on parasitic soybean cyst nematodes. Tarek and his team have identified several novel major resistance genes for the parasite that poses a significant threat to agricultural trade and exports.

New F&A Rate Agreement 

The Office of Sponsored Programs has published UT's new federally negotiated indirect cost rate agreement, which should be used when preparing budgets for proposals. The new agreement includes some significant changes.
