Jodi Troutt, owner of Fortis Self-Defense, will be our guest.

Jodi is a certified instructor for the “Refuse to Be a Victim” personal safety program.

Although Jodi teaches physical self-defense, she will be leading us in a lecture-based program that focuses solely on personal safety, awareness, and prevention. It discusses safety topics for home, work, travel, and public spaces.

A student manual that includes information addressed in the program, as well as space for notes, will be available for purchase prior to the presentation. The manuals can be purchased for $5 each.

We are excited about the opportunity to learn from Jodi, and we look forward to this time of fellowship. Although our group is comprised of “grandmother” aged women, all women are invited, as well as friends and guests.

We are so excited about this program and hope you will
be able to join us!

The Women
by Kristin Hannah
Presenter: Mary Hande

Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.
As green and inexperienced as the men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war. Each day is a gamble of life and death, hope and betrayal; friendships run deep and can be shattered in an instant. In war, she meets—and becomes one of—the lucky, the brave, the broken, and the lost.
But war is just the beginning for Frankie and her veteran friends. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and to a country that wants to forget Vietnam.
The Women is the story of one woman gone to war, but it shines a light on all women who put themselves in harm’s way and whose sacrifice and commitment to their country has too often been forgotten. A novel about deep friendships and bold patriotism, The Women is a richly drawn story with a memorable heroine whose idealism and courage under fire will come to define an era.

An Evening with Nadia Bolz-Weber
New York Times bestselling author Reverend Nadia Bolz-Weber has been called “a pastor for America’s outsiders” (BBC). She will be the first to attest that she doesn’t look like most people’s idea of a pastor, but the community of faith she founded in Denver, Colorado—House for All Sinners and Saints—is a haven for a diverse community seeking affirmation and acceptance.
Join us in the Sanctuary for a great night with Nadia. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The evening starts at 7:00 p.m.
If you are bringing a group or need a discount, please contact Sophie Maness at smaness@nashvillewpc.org.
Join us and invite your friends for a wonderful evening!!
