[from the vpsa]Winston Churchill is credited with the saying "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." My friend Hannah recently suggested that what we need right now is "urgent optimism", arguing that optimism is not just an option, but an imperative if we are to overcome the challenges we are experiencing right now. She recently took on the role of CEO of the Earthshot Prize, a global entity that is trying to change and salvage the course of human history by energizing global efforts to forestall cataclysmic destruction of the planet. I find inspiration in Hannah and others like her, who have been able to be optimistic, given all of the challenges that lie ahead. How are you nurturing your own urgent optimism?
