Project Purpose
The University Center Utility Project continues with the restoration of Gilman Drive and Russell Lane, which includes slurry seal and restriping of affected roadways, crosswalks and Transit Center bus stops.
Location and Duration
The restoration work will require temporary lane closures along Gilman Drive, intermittently affecting vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Library Walk and the Via La Jolla / Gilman Drive intersection, including the Russell Lane and Myers Drive intersections. This work will begin on Feb. 16, 2021 and end on March 2, 2021.
Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts
- Asphalt repair will occur on Tuesday, Feb. 16, along Gilman Drive.
- The westbound bus stops at the Gilman Transit Center will temporarily be shifted west on Tuesday, Feb. 16, to accommodate the work.
- The slurry seal of Gilman Drive will require single-lane closures between Villa La Jolla Drive and Library Walk from Feb. 19-20.
- The speed limit in this section of Gilman Drive will be decreased to 20 mph.
- The contractor will maintain access along Gilman Drive for vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
- Detours will be in place at the Russell Lane and Myers Drive intersections on Friday, Feb. 19.
- Russell Lane will be closed south of the Gilman Parking Structure west exit on the morning of Saturday, Feb 20, requiring traffic exiting the structure to detour along Rupertus Lane and Myers Lane.
- The traffic signals at the Gilman Drive / Myers Drive intersection and Gilman Drive / Russell Lane intersection will be set to flashing red during the work.
- Temporary traffic tags will be used to delineate lanes until the restriping operation is complete. Detours and traffic control signage will be in place where necessary for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.
- Access to Lot P602 will be maintained at all times
