How do we create opportunities for students to approach each other with curiosity and engage meaningfully with their peers’ ideas? Join colleagues at Teaching Day to explore how to effectively frame conversations, facilitate more productive student participation, and prepare students to engage as active citizens in any discipline. The program includes hands-on workshops around constructive dialogue and a panel where GW faculty will share ready-to-implement classroom activities to promote civic engagement. Join us at the CTE Open House in Gelman Library on Thursday, September 18, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. to meet the CTE staff, connect with colleagues, and explore the resources we offer. Light refreshments will be served, and there will be opportunities to win prizes, including books and CTE swag. Please see the event page for more details.

In October, CTE and campus partners will celebrate teaching at GW and continue the conversation around the Teaching Day theme, "Fostering Constructive Dialogue." Join us throughout Teaching Month for special events and opportunities to connect, including:

During Teaching Month, we are offering a book group around Difficult Conversations: How to Discuss What Matters Most, by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen. We'll explore what the book can teach us about:

We plan to offer two book groups in Fall 2025, one which will meet in-person and one which will meet online. (We will not be offering a hybrid option: you'll be committed to the modality you choose.) As part of filling out this form, you will help us identify a day and time for each group, select your preferred modality, and communicate a little bit about your interest in joining the group.

This cohort-based collegial program is accepting applications until October 1. All faculty members who consider themselves new or relatively new to teaching at GW are welcome to join. The cohort will take part in six two-hour sessions between October and March, and, in February, there will be multiple opportunities for peer feedback. For more information, visit the website.
