Sydney Cancer Partners is thrilled to announce the recipients of our most recent Seed Grants. Seed Grants are awarded to early and mid-career researchers for a 12-month project that will assist them to make competitive applications for Fellowships or other research funding.

Dr Anna Singleton. Senior Research Fellow, The Daffodil Centre, a joint initiative of Cancer Council NSW and the University of Sydney. “Putting patient voices at the forefront of cancer research in Australia: a consumer-led mixed-methods priority setting study.”
Dr Alison Pearce. Senior Lecturer, School of Public Health, The University of Sydney & Stream Lead, Health Economics, The Daffodil Centre, a joint initiative of Cancer Council NSW and the University of Sydney. “Embedding cancer survivor preferences into a clinical pathway for fear of cancer recurrence.”
Dr Dan Luo. Postdoctoral Research Fellow, The Daffodil Centre, a joint initiative of Cancer Council NSW and the University of Sydney. “It Is More Than Just Language: Exploring perception and acceptability, barriers and facilitators to uptake of the National Lung Cancer Screening Program among Chinese migrants in Australia.”

Clinical Trials Support Grant

Congratulations to Associate Professor Cherry Koh and team who were awarded the SCP Clinical Trials Support Grant for their application "A Community-Partnered Co-Designed Intervention to Enhance Recruitment of Aboriginal peoples in Cancer Surgical Trials".

The team from SOuRCe and partner organisations will carry out a project over the next 18 months to develop, implement, and evaluate new ways to make cancer surgical trials more accessible and culturally safe for Aboriginal patients.

World Cancer Day Sydney 2025 - SAVE THE DATE

Join us on 4 February 2025 as we recognise World Cancer Day in an event at the Aerial Function Centre, UTS.

In partnership with Maridulu Budyari Gumal (SPHERE) Cancer CAG and The University of Sydney Cancer Research Network we will explore different dimensions of people-centred cancer care and new ways of making a difference.

Theme: United by Unique - Urgent action for people-centred care. In 2025, we focus on showcasing real stories with unique perspectives.
Date: 4 February 2025
Venue: Aerial Function Centre, UTS

Growing Ideas & Growing Careers

Held on Monday 21 October at the University of Sydney, this event highlighted high-impact research by early career researchers who have received funding from Sydney Cancer Partners. Attended by around 50 delegates, the event opened with a keynote presentation entitled “The Distracted Academic” by Professor Inger Mewburn, Director of Researcher Development at the Australian National University.

In 2024 SCP awarded conference travel funding to 26 members to assist with expenses associated with travel to present their work at National or International conferences.

We have established a process to help researchers engage with consumers by facilitating payment (honorarium) or reimbursement of costs incurred by consumers while engaging in research.
