New Year's Retreat - December 28, 2019-January 1, 2020
Space with shared accommodation still remains in the four-day New Year's retreat. Wayne Coger will lead this popular retreat as he has done for several years now. He is a teacher in residence at the Center and also serves as the Administrator.
Rick McDaniel interviews Wayne in his new book The Story of Zen. In his reply to Rick's question of what happens in the retreat environment at Springwater, Wayne says, ". . . for me it's an opportunity to work with oneself and to work with others, to be with oneself and to be with others, to explore, to question and to quieten. And to see what arises. And this seeing, to me, is really the heart of this work. To see how we are in a kind of unvarnished way. Untainted, as far as possible, by our memories, by our desires, the way we want to appear, the way we want to be seen by others. . . . And in the talks, and in the meetings, and in the quiet sittings, we can begin to clarify, to let some of the extraneous and superficial stuff we live with most of the time fall away. And I think this is a very rare and precious thing in this world."
