Visit the 74th Student Independent Exhibition

Now in its 74th year, the Cleveland Institute of Art's Student Independent Exhibition (SIE) an honored tradition that’s never conventional. Organized entirely by students, who choose the jurors and mount the exhibition, SIE offers fresh approaches to contemporary art. The show will be on view in Reinberger Gallery from February 14 through March 15. An opening reception will be held on Friday, February 14, from 6 to 9pm.

2020 Alumni Exhibition

It is with great excitement that CIA's Alumni Council announces the 2020 Alumni Exhibition. The show will run July 10 through August 14 in Reinberger Gallery at CIA. Submissions will be accepted March 1 through April 1, and all alumni are encouraged to apply. This year's exhibition committee members are Lesyle Arian '76Mary Urbas '80Steven Mastroianni '88Deborah Pinter '88Teresa Carlisle '06, and Kimberly Chapman '17. The exhibition will be juried by Michael Goodson, Senior Curator of Exhibitions at Wexner Center for the Arts.

You'll join a select group of art educators from across the country as you create a new body of studio work and reinvigorate your teaching practice. Applications are open through March 1. Connect your teen artist to CIA Pre-College

Who is the rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior in your life looking to explore new media, sharpen their art and design skills, and build a portfolio? CIA’s Pre-College program is an opportunity for high school students to live on CIA’s campus and experience life as an art student for two or four weeks. They’ll spend dedicated hours focusing on the subject of their choice, taught by accomplished faculty, while they earn college credit. Herbert Friedson '58 has an enamel wall piece, "Alien Icon," on view in the 2020 International Juried Show - Totems at Beacon Gallery in Boston. The show is on view from February 7 to March 15. 
Carol Adams '70 has work on view in Organic Expressions at Peg's Gallery in Hudson, Ohio. The two-person show runs trough March 24.
Deborah Pinter '88 has works on view in a solo show, Fuse: New Works by Deborah Pinter, at the Massillon Museum in Massillon, Ohio. A reception will take place on February 16 and the show will run through March 22.
Rosana Castrillo Díaz '96 has work on view in a retrospective exhibition at Anthony Meier Fine Arts in San Francisco, California.
Jenniffer Omaitz '02 has work in With Devotion at The Contemporary Dayton, on view through February 15. 
Scott Colosimo '04 will launch the Falcon, a new electric motorcycle developed by his company, Cleveland CycleWerks, at an event at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum. The free event requires registration and will take place on March 20 at 6:30pm. 
Scott Goss '06 will begin an artist residency at the Akron Soul Train in March. He will exhibit his residency work in a solo show opening on April 2.  
Ashley Gerst '07 won the Best Audience Award for her film The Spirit Seam at the AnimaPix Film Festival in the Azores, Portugal. She has been invited to speak about her work at the Azores Fringe Festival in June.
Niki Smith '09 recently released The Deep & Dark Blue, a graphic novel published by Little, Brown Young Readers.

Jobs and Other Artist Opportunities

  • Progressive Insurance is hiring a creative designer. The ideal candidate will have experience with digital media and web design. 

  • The National Aquarium is seeking an exhibit project manager.

  • Vitamix is looking for a user experience designer. The ideal applicant will have skills in design, research, and prototyping.

  • The City of Geneva, New York and its Public Art Committee are seeking proposed designs for laser-cut back panels of three bycicle parking shelters as part of a streetscape redesign project. The proposal deadline is February 24.

  • Playhouse Square is hosting its second annual Staging Success Career Fair on March 18. The event is free, but an application is required.

  • Artists are welcome to submit work for Brooklyn Utopias 2020, a show that will explore Brooklyn's past, present and future. The deadline for submissions is March 1. 

  • The Mattress Factory is looking for a curator to develop museum exhibitions. Interested applicants should apply by February 10.
