Dear Cathedral Family,

December is here! So are rain/snow mixes, icy roads and windshields, and storm warnings and advisories. It may be "the most wonderful time of the year," but there are plenty of things to grumble about, as well. We have Thanksgiving and the overshadowing presence of Black Friday launching us into the dash for Christmas, complete with frenetic shopping lists, final exams for the kids, and numerous school games and concerts. Combined with the aforementioned weather descriptors, is it any wonder that we struggle to remember the real reason for the season?

Thankfully, we have Advent to remind us that it really is a wonderful time of the year. The world’s definition of Advent is “the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.” For us as Christians, we know Advent signals the coming of Christ each year. As we light the weekly candles, our traditional wreaths help count down the days for us. Jesus calls us to be like children in our innocence and awe of the beauty and magnificence of this season. The lights, presents, and hoopla are mere window dressing to the reason for the season, Jesus Christ. We at Cathedral hold dearly to the blessing of being able to share that fact on a daily basis, especially during this time of the year. I encourage you to join us in sharing the good news and to give yourself the gift of remembering Jesus throughout this upcoming Advent and Christmas season.

In the past few weeks, we have held two significant events that are worth mentioning here. On November 12 and 13, we held our second annual Board of Directors retreat. The focus of the retreat was to reaffirm ourselves to our Catholic, Holy Cross mission, and to focus on key strategic issues for the school. Our mission was showcased with outstanding presentations from our school staff, emphasizing our call to be examples of A Shared Vocation by modeling community, prayer, and inclusiveness and diversity. These terms are more than words to us; we strive to live them every day. Hats off to our wonderful teachers and staff for inspiring our board members! We also had our accreditation team visit us and help affirm that we are living out what we attest to do in our classrooms and in all other areas of school life. The 16-member team of school people from all over the Midwest was able to assess our sense of community is truly exemplary; they referred to it as "palpable." They also recognized our good work in the area of diversity, by not only welcoming a diverse student body, but also by establishing support programs so that all can succeed here. It is tremendously affirming to hear from others that our work is carried out in our actions. We know we have work to do, but I can tell you that we are indeed doing a great job of creating a warm, caring, and challenging school environment that is open to all and truly educates the hearts AND minds of our students.

I hope to see you soon at one of our winter athletic events, holiday concerts, or on your way to the Cathedral Spirit Shop. In addition, I want to say a special thank you for your gift to us -- that of entrusting your child’s education to us. As we look forward to 2019, we are filled with gratitude that you have chosen to be a part of the Cathedral family. May Advent anticipation turn into Christmas joy for you and yours. And as always, may God’s face shine upon you and yours, even through the snow and slush!

                Centennial Campaign Update

We are proud to announce we have raised $20,339,980 of our $25 million campaign goal! Thank you to all who have given so generously as we build on our legacy and further Cathedral's impact in the community, in the state, and across the world.
Cathedral’s Centennial Campaign is positioned to be the tipping point for robust capital improvements and strategic enhancements that will stimulate the next 100 years of continued excellence. The campaign’s ambitious $25 million goal will allow Cathedral to implement the following priorities:
- Construction of a state-of-the-art Innovation Center - The Innovation Center will set Cathedral apart from any other school in the city by providing best-in-class science, engineering, robotics, design, and programming facilities, as well as being intentionally designed to promote interdisciplinary scholarship.

- Growth in the endowment to support tuition assistance and teacher compensation

- Transform Brunette Park and enhance the city’s east side - Located at 44th and Mitthoeffer, Cathedral expanded her campus to create an athletic home for the first time in her history.  This new facility also provides an opportunity for Cathedral to be a partner in the revitalization of the east side of Indianapolis.
