New Library Cards – Library cards at the Richmond Public Library are getting a makeover, complete with a brand new logo! Did you know a library card provides you with access to computers, Homework Help, meeting rooms, and even sewing machines and 3-D printers? Sign-up to get yours today!

Lit Limo – Have you seen our newest Lit Limo rolling around town? It has built-in bookshelves, power outlets for computers, A/C and heat, and a wheelchair lift so every RPS student can come onboard and browse for free books. This is all part of our effort to develop not only expert readers, but also joyful ones. Check out the schedule below to find a location near you!

Youth Mental Health First Aid – The Virginia Home for Boys and Girls will host a free Youth Mental Health First Aid workshop on Friday, May 17, from 8:30 - 5 pm in the VHBG dining hall (8716 West Broad St). The course will help teachers and other school staff to recognize the signs of anxiety, depression, and more in youth ages 12-18. Registration is required. If you are unable to attend at this time, additional dates are available online.

CTE Summer Exploration – The RPS Career and Technical Education program is thrilled to offer summer exploration courses to current 9th and 10th graders! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to receive hands-on experience while exploring career paths. Students may sign up for as many as three sessions, but can only register for the same course once. After submissions are reviewed, students will be contacted with details about course placement, location, and transportation.

Shout-Outs!

Shout-Outs – Please help us continue to inspire and uplift the RPS community by submitting shout-outs to shoutouts@rvaschools.net. Entries can be submitted in Spanish or English!

A huge shout-out and best wishes to our Communities in Schools site coordinator, Katalina Valdes! Mrs. Valdes has done amazing work with Cardinal Elementary students and families for the past 3 years as CIS site coordinator, and we could not have been more lucky to experience her phenomenal impact during that time! We are saying farewell to Ms. Valdes this Friday as she takes on a new endeavor, and we wish you all the best in your new role!
Henry L. Marsh 3rd-5th grade scholars and families caught "Flights for Success” to help with SOL preparation Scholars were gifted "Wonder Packs" from the RPS Engagement Office, filled with materials that make reviewing at home or at the park easy. Our CIS team provided 6 themed gift baskets that were raffled off to our families as well. We ended the night reminding our families of the SOL dates, writing scholar affirmations to help boost morale during this strenuous period, and stressing the importance of attendance during testing, all while fellowshipping with dinner. Thank you to everyone who was in attendance and the dedicated team of leaders who put their talents together to create a night of SOL prep success!

Summer Bridge Program – This summer, we're holding our first-ever Summer Bridge program! Rising 9th grade students are encouraged to register for this unique opportunity to experience high school prior to beginning classes in the fall. The Summer Bridge program will run from July 15 - July 18 at Dogwood MS and River City MS. The deadline to register is Friday, May 17.
