The Tiger Paw Turns 50
Clemson’s iconic symbol has been a lasting source of pride for alumni and fans. When Hootie Ingram succeeded Frank Howard as head football coach in 1970, he believed the program needed some changes to its image. So, he set up a meeting with sports information director Bob Bradley and other administrators. One of the items on the agenda was the logo.

An Online Education
Teachers world-wide have been thrust into blended and distance learning platforms in recent months. Helping teachers obtain strong communication skills, technological literacy, new strategies for identifying learning difficulties, as well as, determining solutions for engaging and motivating students to participate fully will be essential to student success.

Clemson University Trustees approve to change the name of the University’s Honors College to the Clemson University Honors College, effective immediately, and request the authority from the South Carolina General Assembly to restore Tillman Hall to its original name of the Main Building, commonly called “Old Main”.

Self-Healing Polymers
Self-healing polymers are a type of smart material that repair their own damage without help. They could lead to a host of futuristic technologies, such as car paint that heals its own scratches, smartphone screens that fix their own cracks and hip implants with extended lifetimes.

Dina Altwam is one of two students who received the 2020 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Student Award, which is presented annually to two seniors for outstanding service to Clemson University and the extended Clemson community.

A High Honor
Charles Dove was an undergraduate at Clemson University when he helped lead teams that experiment with nuclear fusion, launch rockets to the same height as Mount Everest and build small satellites that orbit Earth. Dove has received a grant through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Thomas Albert McTeer of McClellanville was a member of Clemson’s Class of 1942—the first class to graduate following America’s entrance into the war. McTeer was an honor student in civil engineering who served as vice president of the campus chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
