Coming Back Safe & Strong

Coming Back Safe and Strong Update
What You Need to Know, When You Need to Know It

Top Things to Know this Week

With just about two weeks to go until the start of spring semester, here are the top things you should know and/or do as we all prepare to come back safe and strong.

VACCINES
Vaccine Appointments through NYS
While supply and appointment-making through New York State (NYS) continue to pose challenges, we remind you to please continue to check eligibility and appointment availability for the COVID vaccine on the New York State Department of Health Eligibility website. Remember: NYS has sole authority over eligibility, vaccine supply and appointment making. Stay up to date with rapidly changing vaccine information on our dedicated page on the Coming Back Safe and Strong website

Stony Brook University Hospital Among Highest Performing Vaccine Distribution Sites in NY
Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has administered 100 percent of its COVID-19 vaccine allocations, is among the highest performing vaccine distribution sites in New York State, and will continue to quickly and efficiently administer vaccines as soon as we receive them from the State. Right now, we are administering second doses to SBUH and School of Medicine clinical faculty, having administered all first doses supplied by New York State to date. As part of the federal vaccination program for nursing homes, the Long Island State Veterans Home federal vaccination program partner CVS/Omnicare administered second doses of the vaccine this past week.

Pandemic Resilience
President Maurie McInnis will be leading a ‘Reimagine New York’ Roundtable session on pandemic resilience next Thursday, January 28, at 4 pm. Reimagine New York is a State initiative to plan for a post-COVID future and recovery, and this particular session takes a historical look at what changed and what opportunities emerged in New York City and State, after the pandemic in 1918. You Can Help Keep Us Safe This Spring, Too

  • Wash your hands or use sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available.
  • Maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from other people.
  • Wear a mask.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces in your workplace every day.
  • Avoid using other people's phones, desks, offices, tools and equipment.
  • Stay home if you’re sick.
  • Avoid large gatherings.

Don’t Forget CampusClear
Please remember to complete your CampusClear app to assess for COVID-19 symptoms before arriving on campus. Faculty/staff: remember that you will need to have screened every day for two weeks prior to returning in-person.

Need help accessing the screener or want to set up a daily screener reminder? If you haven’t yet, you can go to the App Store on your phone to download this free application. Make sure to accept the option for helpful daily reminders.

Already have the app but don’t get the reminder notifications? Simply go to ‘Notifications’ under ‘Settings’ on your mobile device to turn them on.

While we recommend the app for ease of use, if you do not have a mobile device or just prefer, you can complete your daily self-screening requirements on the CampusClear website
